Chapter 387 Across the Glass
Ethan wondered if Amelia was working at his rival’s company just to avoid him.
Or had she truly let go, begun an entirely new life–one with no space left for him at all?
The thought sent a surge of panic through him.
The car braked sharply and came to a stop across from the Stardale Group building.

Ethan remained in the driver’s seat, lifting his head to stare at the sunlit structure gleaming before him.
She was inside, behind one of those windows, breathing the same air as him–yet separated by a distance he could no longer cross so easily.
He took out his phone and called Amelia.
The afternoon light was gentle. Amelia had just returned from lunch with Tim and was leaning back in her comfortable office chair, sipping warm water as she gathered her thoughts from the morning and mapped out her plans for the afternoon.
Just then, a soft knock sounded on the glass door of her office.
Amanda peeked her head in, her face bright with barely concealed curiosity and amusement. “Ms. Harlow.”
Amelia looked up.
Behind Amanda stood a sharply dressed young man. It was Mason’s assistant, Grant Hollister.
He was holding an elegant thermal flask. When he saw Amelia, he immediately offered a respectful smile. “Ms. Harlow, Mr. Everett asked me to bring this to you.”
As he spoke, he placed the flask on her desk.
Amelia was momentarily taken aback, then understood. This must have been the chamomile tea Mason had mentioned on WhatsApp.
The gesture felt almost too formal in its care.
“Thank you,” Amelia said, maintaining a composed smil.
“My pleasure.” Grant inclined his head slightly. “Mr. Everett asked that you drink it while it’s still hot. I won’t disturb your work any further, Ms. Harlow.”
Once Grant left, Amanda finally couldn’t hold back. She leaned in and whispered excitedly, “Wow, Amelia, Mr. Everett treats you way too well.”
Amelia felt her cheeks warm. She shot Amanda a helples look. “You’re full of nonsense. Get back to work?
“Yes, ma’am.” Amanda stuck out her tongue and retreat obediently.
The office fell quiet again.
Amelia twisted open the lid. A fragrant steam rose, shat yet lightly sweet..
She poured a small cup and cradled it in her hands, the warmth slowly seeping into her palms.

Just then, the phone on her desk suddenly rang.
Holding the cup, Amelia glanced casually at the screen.
The call was from Ethan.

Her mind immediately jumped to the night before she returned, when Ethan had gone so far as to make a false police report just to harass her.
Without hesitation, she ended the call.
The rejected call emitted a brief sound before the phone went still.
But Amelia knew it wouldn’t end there.
Based on her understanding of Ethan, he wasn’t someone who gave up easily.
Sure enough, barely ten seconds later, the phone lit up again, followed by the vibration of an incoming
message.
Amelia finally reached out and turned the phone over.
On the screen was a text from Ethan.
“I’m downstairs at Stardale Group. If you don’t answer my calls or reply, I’ll have no choice but to come up and find you.”
She knew it.
Today was her first day on the job.
The design department had yet to fully settle, and the company’s senior management was still observing this newly appointed director.
She wouldn’t allow any personal matters, especially an ugly scene involving her ex–husband, to become fodder for questioning her professionalism.
She took a deep breath and forced down the surge of anger.
“What do you want?”
The reply came almost instantly.
“Let’s meet. The café downstairs.”
Amelia stared at the message, her gaze growing colder.
He had even chosen the location, clearly confident she would come.
She pushed the unfinished chamomile tea aside, stood up, and walked to the coat rack to retrieve her jacket,
At the office door, she calmly instructed Amanda, who was focused on her work, “I’m going downstairs to see a friend. About 20 minutes. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Okay,” Amanda replied obediently.
