Chapter 504 Show Weakness First
The photos had been taken while Jack was still alive. In one of them, Hannah was walking out of a hotel wrapped in the arms of a middle–aged man–and that man was unmistakably one of Jack’s biggest creditors!
A surge of fury shot straight to Ethan’s head.
This was nothing like the image Hannah had painted of herself–a pitiful woman enduring her husband’s abuse while silently suffering.
The report went even further, detailing how Hannah had used her beauty and her carefully crafted image of fragility to move among wealthy men, squeezing benefits out of them one by one. When Jack had been at his lowest point, she had even secretly transferred part of his assets behind his back.
The deeper Ethan read, the darker his expression became, a heavy shadow settling over his sharp features.
So this was the truth. The woman Ethan had been protecting all this time… was nothing but a venomous snake.
His grip tightened around the documents until his knuckles creaked.
It felt as though a massive stone had been dropped onto his chest, the weight so crushing that he could barely breathe.
All the kindness he once believed to be compassion, all the favors he thought he owed–every last one of them had turned into knives, slicing him open from the inside.
At last, he understood why Mason had looked at him that way.
The man he used to be really had been blind.
The car stopped at the entrance of a narrow alley in an aging residential neighborhood.
Through the window, Ethan clearly saw the people Hannah had claimed were from the Boyds.
A few men in sleeveless shirts stood outside a rusted iron gate, their tattooed arms flexing as they cursed loudly. Every now and then, they kicked the gate, sending it crashing with loud metallic bangs as they tried
to break in.
They definitely weren’t the harmless kind.
Their presence at least proved Hannah truly was in trouble this time.
But that didn’t change the image she had already carved into Ethan’s mind.
“Take them down,” Ethan ordered coldly to the bodyguards beside him.
The moment the words left his mouth, several burly bodyguards jumped out of the car and rushed the men with swift precision.
In less than a few seconds, the shouting stopped abruptly. The thugs who had been acting so arrogantly

moments earlier were cleanly subdued and pinned to the ground, completely unable to move.
Only then did Ethan push open the car door and walk steadily toward Hannah’s front door.
There was an invisible authority in his presence that didn’t require anger to be felt. The thugs pressed to the ground instantly fell silent, barely daring to breathe.
Standing at the door, Ethan called out in a deep voice, “Hannah. Open the door.”
A flurry of panicked movement came from inside, followed by the sound of the lock turning.
When the door opened, Hannah looked as pale as paper. Her eyes were swollen and red, her hair messy and loose, and her nightgown hung in disarray as if she had just woken from a nightmare.
She clutched Isla tightly in her arms as the little girl trembled uncontrollably, clearly frightened.
“Ethan!” The moment Hannah saw him, relief burst across her face like someone who had just survived a disaster. She stumbled forward as if about to throw herself at him–but froze when she met the icy look in his eyes.
Isla, however, had no such hesitation. Seeing Ethan was like seeing a savior.
She wriggled free from Hannah’s arms and threw herself straight into Ethan’s embrace, crying as she clung to him. “Mr. Rowe, I’m so scared… They were so mean…”
Ethan lowered his gaze to the frail little girl in his arms.
Tears covered Isla’s face, and those eyes–so similar to Jack’s–were filled with helpless fear.
Even though Ethan had now seen Hannah’s true colors, he couldn’t take his anger out on an innocent child.
And more than that, she was still Jack’s daughter.
Jack had once been his closest childhood friend, someone who had taken a knife for him and bled for him.
