They had barely taken a few steps outside when Lily’s body gave out completely. Amelia felt the weight in her arms vanish, and Lily slid bonelessly to the floor.
“Lily!” Terrified, Amelia dropped to her knees and tried to lift her.
Lily’s face was frighteningly pale. Her eyes were shut, her lips had gone faintly purple, and even her breathing had turned weak.
“Miss, I think your friend passed out!” one of the bar staff cried, startled by the sudden collapse.
Amelia’s heart leaped into her throat. Not daring to waste a second, she pulled out her phone and called emergency services.
Her hands were shaking as she gave the address and explained the situation as fast as she could.
After hanging up, she hesitated for one brief second, then called Tim.
The phone rang several times before he answered. His voice sounded tired. “Hello?”
“Tim, Lily passed out! I already called an ambulance. We’re heading to the hospital. Get here now!” Amelia said urgently.
“What? She passed out? What happened to Lily? Where are you?”
Amelia repeated the essentials as quickly as she could, then hung up and put all her attention back on Lily
Crouched beside her on the ground, she patted Lily’s cheek lightly, trying to wake her, but Lily didn’t respond at all.
The ambulance arrived quickly. The paramedics lifted Lily onto a stretcher, and Amelia climbed in after her. The ride was a blur.
By the time they reached the ER, Lily had already been rushed into the resuscitation room. Amelia waited anxiously outside.
Not long after, Tim appeared at the far end of the corridor. His face was full of fear and unease.
But when he came closer, Amelia caught the lingering scent of Leigh’s perfume on him.
Her brow tightened. She was just about to question him when the doors to the treatment room opened
The doctor stepped out, his expression grave.
“Doctor, how is her?” Amelia and Tim rushed forward at almost the same time, speaking in unison.
The doctor removed his mask and looked at them both. “Ms. Rayne is stable for now, but she’s pregnant
“What?” Amelia froze where she stood while Tim went stark white and stopped dead.
He had imagined having a child with Lily more times than he could count

Chapter 542 A Child at the Worst Possible Time
Finishe
On those tender nights, holding her close, he had whispered plans for the future into her ear. A daughter as beautiful and clever as Lily, or a son strong enough to protect them both.
But fate had a cruel sense of humor. The child he had longed for had chosen the worst possible moment
to arrive.
Right after a bitter fight, this was how they found out.
“The patient is stable for the moment,” the doctor continued when neither of them reacted. “But because she consumed alcohol and experienced intense emotional distress, there are signs of a threatened miscarriage. We’ve taken measures to protect the pregnancy, but from here on, she needs strict bed rest and absolute emotional stability.”
Seeing that they were still stunned, the doctor went on in a matter–of–fact tone. “Which one of you is family? Please go take care of the admission paperwork.”
“I will,” Amelia said first, snapping back to herself.
When Lily was moved out of the treatment room and transferred into a quiet private room, Amelia looked at her bloodless face. Even in sleep, her brows were still drawn tight. The sight made Amelia’s ches ache.
She turned toward Tim, who was still standing by the door.
“Tim, come with me for a minute. Let’s talk at the end of the hall. There’s something I want to ask you.”
