Only Amelia turned bright red at the sudden teasing.

Marriage… Becoming his wife. It wasn’t like she had never imagined it. She had. Quietly, on her own. But hearing it said out loud, in front of everyone, made her flustered.

She didn’t dare look up. Instead, she lowered her head and picked up her fork, pretending to focus on the cake.

Amelia finished the dessert after a while. It was a bright and lovely morning. The sunlight felt soft, not harsh at all. It was perfect weather for going out.

Once breakfast was over, they got ready to visit the Christmas market.

As they passed the Preston’s house, Nora called out like she always did and invited Kaia to join them.

Kaia came out in no time. She smiled apologetically and declined. She said she would be going out with her family to take a stroll at the cemetery.

Mason drove a spacious seven–seater van. Since Kaia wasn’t joining them, it offered enough space for everyone to sit comfortably.

The old town was only about 12 miles away, not far at all.

It was the first day of the holiday, and the crowds were huge. By the time they got there, the place was already packed.

Mason spent a while circling the busy parking lot before he finally found a space.

Amelia got out first and waited by the side of the road.

The winter sun felt warm on her skin. She pulled out her phone to check the time.

The screen lit up and Ethan’s name appeared.

It was a message. Just a simple wish of “Merry Christmas.” There was also a small cash gift.

Amelia stared at the message for a few seconds.

She typed back, “Thank you. Merry Christmas to you too.” She didn’t accept the money.

What she and Ethan had now, it wasn’t the kind of relationship where she could take that and feel okay about it.

After parking, Mason saw her right away. She stood in the sunlight, head lowered, lost in thought.

He walked over and glanced at her phone. He saw Ethan’s name on the screen.

For a split second, his eyes darkened. Then his face went calm again.

He knew Ethan well enough. A few rejections

wouldn’t make him give up.

Amelia snapped back to her senses at the warmth of his hand. She looked up at him, then followed his gaze forward. Only then did she realize Nora was already pushing Evan ahead, with Hayden walking beside them. They were quite far now.

“Okay!” she said, squeezing his hand. She slipped her phone back into her pocket and pushed all thoughts of Ethan out of her mind. Then she pulled Mason along and quickly caught up with the others.

Over the next few days, Amelia stayed with the Everetts. She felt relaxed and happy the entire time.

Usually, it was just her and Mason, sharing quiet moments together.

But happy days always pass quickly. In the blink of an eye, almost a week had passed.

The company would reopen tomorrow, so Amelia had to head back today.

As she packed her things, she couldn’t help but sigh at how fast time had flown.
