Chapter 7
“There’s more.”
I didn’t give him time to recover and continued.
“Freshman year, some thugs cornered me in an alley wanting to rob me. I was terrified, but just as they were about to attack, they suddenly ran off like they’d seen a ghost.”
“I turned around-the alley entrance was completely empty.”
Dad’s face got paler and paler, his hand holding his wine glass trembling slightly.
“Sophomore year, I was riding my bike down that big hill when my brakes suddenly failed. I thought I was dead, but a black SUV came out of nowhere and blocked my path sideways. I crashed into it but only got minor scrapes. By the time I came to my senses, the driver was gone.”
I calmly recounted all the unexplainable “coincidences” that had happened to me over the years.
Every single one pointed to the same possibility.
As Dad listened, his face went from pale to ashen.
He wasn’t stupid.
He’d just been so lost in his grief and new family that he’d chosen to ignore it all.
He’d rather believe I was sick than face a truth he couldn’t handle.
“Why… why didn’t you tell me about these things earlier?”
His voice was hoarse, full of regret and fear.
If those “coincidences” hadn’t happened, I might have died many times over.
And he, as my father, had known nothing.
He’d even pushed me away when I needed him most.
I looked at his anguished expression, feeling completely calm inside.
“Would it have mattered if I told you?”

Chapter 7
“Would you have believed me?”
“You would’ve just thought my condition was getting worse.”
My words were like a knife, cutting precisely into the most painful part of his heart.
He covered his face, his shoulders shaking violently as he let out suppressed, animal-like whimpers.
