Chapter 28 The Act Falls Flat
“You’re the Powell family’s illegitimate kid?
“How come you’ve trained? What kind of training did you do?!”
Noah pressed on, clearly intrigued.
He was genuinely curious about Isabella.
Finished
Ever since Isabella had let out that unsettling aura earlier, he had known she must have trained—and trained well at that.
Now, he was sure of it.
He found it pretty fascinating.
An illegitimate daughter of the Powell family with skills like that… How interesting.
If he hadn’t known Isabella was Hannah’s sister, he might have thought she was Hannah’s bodyguard–the kind who went undercover and attended school alongside her.
Though, given Hannah’s status and importance, she hardly warranted that level of protection.
Isabella was annoyed by his constant talking.
She turned her head slightly toward him and said coldly, “Has anyone ever told you something?”
Noah asked, “What?”
He was both confused and curious.
“You’re annoying.”
Isabella’s expression stayed indifferent. “Stop talking.
“I’m going to sleep.”
Noah was at a loss for words.
Seriously…
Did she even realize class was about to start?
And she was here to study! Not to sleep!
He glared at the back of Isabella’s head, looking thoroughly put out.

Usually, he was the one telling other people to shut up. Now, he was the one being told to be quiet.
He felt deeply frustrated.

But something in Isabella’s gaze earlier warned him that if he kept bothering her, the consequences wouldn’t be pretty.
Noah frowned slightly.
He had this weird combat instinct and it was usually spot on.
So, no matter how frustrated he felt, he had to hold it in.
The entire morning passed without anyone disturbing Isabella.
And Isabella was pretty satisfied with the environment of her seat.
Choosing this spot had definitely been the right move.
Otherwise, she’d either be driven crazy by noise or worn down by annoyance.
When lunch break came around, she stretched lazily and got ready to head to the school cafeteria.
Just then, Hannah approached her gently from the other side and said softly, “Isabella, do you want to go to the cafeteria together?
“I can show you around the school and point out some good food and nice spots on campus.”
She spoke cheerfully while subtly glancing toward where Noah was sitting, hoping to catch his attention with her gentle and considerate demeanor.
Hannah was seething inside.
All morning, she had been hoping Isabella would provoke Noah and get kicked out of that seat.
Instead, Isabella and Noah had spent the whole morning peacefully coexisting!
The fact that they had managed to get along—or at least not ash–was already enough to make people take notice.
After all, since Noah had joined Class 1, no one had ever sat in that seat next to him.
୮
Anyone who tried got chased off pretty quickly.
Yet, Isabella had not only taken the seat but, from the looks of it, Noah showed no intention of making her leave.
Was Isabella going to end up getting close to Noah from now on?
Noah’s position in Class I was kind of unique.
His family background was extremely powerful, and he mostly kept to himself year after year.
Everyone in their social circle wanted to get close to him, but no one had managed to do it.

Some couldn’t even get more than a few words out of him.
Noah treated everyone with equal indifference.
Yet, he seemed to view Isabella differently.
All morning, Hannah had been digging her nails into her palms so hard they almost bled.
She smiled warmly at Isabella and said, “Isabella, let’s go together.”
Isabella, however, couldn’t be bothered to play along.

She had seen through Hannah’s act a long time ago—these were tricks she herself had mastered ages past.
What did Hannah think she was?
Did she really believe Isabella would go along with it?
Isabella glanced at her briefly, said nothing, stood up directly, and walked out.
She knew the way to the cafeteria perfectly well and could go on her own.
There was no need to put on a show of sisterly affection with Hannah.
Watching Isabella leave without a word, Hannah’s eyes instantly reddened.
She held back for a moment, then turned to Noah and said in a soft, choked voice, “I’m sorry, Noah, for bothering you.
“I don’t know why my sister is…
“I’m sorry. She can be a little distant.
“But I believe deep down, that’s not who she really is.
“It’s just from growing up in the countryside… Oh, I’m sorry. shouldn’t have said so much.”
Hannah covered her mouth lightly, then bowed her head apologetically toward Noah. Noah, I’m sorry. If my sister ever does anything to upset you, please don’t take it to heart. I’ll make sure to apologize properly on her behalf.
“After all, she… she can’t help it…”
“Oh.”
Noah watched Hannah’s performance with great interest.
