Chapter 5 A Ride Down the Mountain

Isabella walked straight out of Powell Villa before realizing it was located in a hillside estate.
Cars were scarce around here, with most residents relying on their family vehicles for travel.
Unlike Isabella, who was walking alone on the winding mountain road.
“Forget it.”
After standing silently by the roadside for a while, Isabella decided she might as well run down the mountain.
It would be a good way to train her stamina.
Earlier, while in her room, she had carefully felt around.
This world wasn’t entirely devoid of the spiritual energy and psychic force from her original world–it was just extremely sparse.
Only faint traces of energy lingered in the air.
But for Isabella, these traces were enough for recovery.
Now, she could feel the source of power within her slowly stirring back to life.
Though the process was very slow, it was something to look forward to.
Isabella’s eyes flickered thoughtfully.
She raised her hand, and a swirling vortex slowly formed in her palm, sharp as a blade, cold and piercing, almost cutting through the air.
With a wave of her hand, the swirling air blade dissipated.
The next moment, she gripped the roadside guardrail, flipped over it, and landed swiftly on the other side of the mountain road. Her movements were precise, concise, and daring.
୮
Moving along the cliffside adjacent to the mountain road, she was as agile as a rabbit and as swift as an eagle. In just a few breaths, she had traversed several sections of the cliff and landed on another stretch of the winding road below.
“Huh?”
Inside a car, Brett Carter’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Eugene, are there monkeys around here?”
He nudged his brother, Eugene Carter’s arm.

Eugene’s gaze remained calm behind his gold–rimmed glasses as he turned to look at Brett, his tone cold. “You’d better have a real reason for bothering me.
“Otherwise, I’ll throw you out to go monkeying around.”
He had been handling an urgent document when Brett nudged him, causing his hand to slip and send the file by mistake.
Expressionlessly, he recalled the document.
But Brett insisted urgently, “No, seriously! Look!
“See? There’s a person on that cliffside!
“Look, hurry, look!
“Isn’t that the girl the Powell family recently brought back?”
Bret: pointed toward the cliffside ahead.
At that moment, Isabella’s figure had just cleared a curved section of the cliff. As she landed, her eyes met those of the Carter family’s car rounding the bend.
She glanced expressionlessly at the Carter family’s car, walked straight to the guardrail on the other side, and prepared to flip over it again.
Eugene tapped his fingers lightly, signaling the driver to stop the car. Then he looked toward Isabella, who had just reached the guardrail, and asked, “Isabella?”
He had heard Isaac call her by that name.
Although the Powell family hadn’t held a public debut, the wealthy families living nearby all knew about the girl–the daughter they had lost fifteen years ago.
“Need a ride?”
He explained briefly, “Beyond this point is the highway, which is off–limits to pedestrians.
୮
“If you keep walking, Isaac and the others will probably get a call from the police within five minutes.”
Without hesitation, she got into the back seat of the car.
Brett looked at her with a mix of surprise and excitement. “How did you do that earlier?!
“Your moves were so clean and sharp! Even my cousin isn’t that impressive–you’re seriously cool!”
Brett’s cousin served in the military with a fairly high rank.
“Practiced in the mountains,” Isabella replied succinctly.
“Thank you.”
She looked at Eugene.

She knew Eugene was the one in charge here.
“No problem,” Eugene replied calmly.
He, too, was surprised. Isabella was completely different from the girl he remembered.
The girl he recalled had been somewhat timid, seeming out of place with the Powell family. Dressed in dresses similar to Hannah’s, she had appeared awkward and shy, like an ugly duckling.
But this girl now…
His eyes discreetly scanned Isabella.
Her hair was swept back, slightly tousled from her earlier movements. Her sharp, cool eyes carried an intense, striking wildness that was captivating.
“Didn’t Isaac arrange a car for you?”
Typically, people from wealthy families had dedicated drivers and vehicles for outings.
Otherwise, given the remote location, Isabella could walk for an hour without running into anyone.
“No,” Isabella replied flatly.
The Powell family would rather the original owner stay hidden to avoid embarrassment–why would they provide her with a car?
Even when she wandered nearby, Isaac and the others had warned her to avoid speaking with others.
And Isabella couldn’t be bothered to inform Isaac about her outings, so she had simply left.
Eugene didn’t respond.
As an heir to a wealthy family, his upbringing kept him from commenting on the Powell family’s actions.
Still, Isaac and the others were going too far.
Letting a young girl venture out alone like this?
On this winding mountain road?
It was absurd.
Eugene frowned, visibly displeased.
୮
He could guess what Isaac and the others were thinking but simply said calmly, “If you need it in the future, you can use our family’s car to get around.
“Our house isn’t far from yours.”
Though not exactly close, they were in the same hillside estate.

Chapter 5 A Ride Down the Mountain
As long as Isabella avoided the Powells, no one would know she was using the Carter family’s car.
“You can call my driver, he said, having his driver hand her a business card.
“He’s usually free, only busy when picking me up or dropping me off.”
Eugene didn’t know why Isabella was out alone.
But treating a young girl this way–the Powell family was being too harsh.
If they brought her back from the countryside, they should treat her properly.
What was going on now?

Eugene had his own principles. Offering a small convenience was just a simple gesture, nothing significant.
“Okay, thanks.”
Isabella didn’t refuse.
She did need a means of transportation, and the Carter family could effectively mislead the Powell family.
She didn’t want any unnecessary entanglement with the Powell family to avoid trouble.
“I’ll pay for the rides later.”
She never took things for free.
She would remember Eugene’s help this time.
Eugene smiled faintly.
“Sure.”
He agreed without saying she didn’t need to pay.
The girl was quite serious–why not agree?
Moreover, Eugene could tell Isabella had strong self–respect and a determined character.
Who knew what kind of life she was living with the Powell family?
Eugene’s brow furrowed slightly before he said calmly, “There are snacks and drinks in the car. Help yourself.”
“Included in the fare,” he added.
“Okay.”
Isabella nodded, not refusing the offer.
