A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 348

Chapter 348

FAYE

A few hours later, I was still thinking about everything.

I let out a slow breath, leaning back against the edge of the bed, fingers pressing lightly to my temples.

You really handled that well,” Nova said.

I cracked one eye open. Don’t start.

Oh, I’m not starting anything. I’m just saying.” Nova was on fire tonight. I could tell from her tone.

I didn’t mean for it to go that way,I muttered. I just didn’t know what to say

Keep telling yourself that,she said.

I exhaled, shutting my eyes again.

I just needed time to think,I said.

Nova didn’t say anything else.

I was silent too. Because she wasn’t wrong.

The answer had been sitting there the whole time. I just hadn’t wanted to say it out loud.

Nova shifted, her presence settling more firmly at the back of my mind.

So what’s the plan?Nova finally said.

I inhaled slowly, then let it out.

I’m going to talk to him,I said quietly.

I hesitated for a second.

Then nodded to myself.

Tonight.

Nova hummed softly.

Wellmove.Nova’s voice echoed in my head.

I sighed and pushed myself up from the bed, smoothing my hands over my clothes.

I spotted Alexander from a distance.

He stood a few feet away from the main entrance, slightly turned toward Kyle, who was holding a tablet and pointing at something on the screen.

<Chapter 348

From the way Alexander’s shoulders were set, I could tell he was listeningbut not fully. There was a

stiffness there. Subtle, but I knew him well enough to see it.

Kyle was talking. Something about patrol routes, I guessed.

Alexander nodded once, then said something I didn’t fully catch.

I hesitated for a second.

Then I walked toward them.

Kyle saw me first.

Luna,” he greeted, straightening a little.

Kyle,” I said, giving him a small smile.

Alexander glanced up at that.

Our eyes met.

He didn’t say anything at first. He just held my gaze for a brief moment, reading me the way he always did.

Then he looked back at Kyle.

Give me a minute,he said.

Kyle didn’t question it. Of course, Alpha.

He dipped his head slightly to me before stepping away, already turning his attention back to whatever report he had been working on.

And then it was just us.

The quiet between us feltdifferent.

Not heavy exactly, but not easy either.

I folded my arms loosely, more to steady myself than anything else.

Alexander waited.

He didn’t rush me. He didn’t ask.

He just stood there, watching me with that same calm patience that suddenly made this harder than it

should have been.

I let out a small breath.

About earlierI started, then paused briefly before meeting his eyes properly. I think we need to talk.

A flicker of something passed through his expression.

He wasn’t surprised.

He had been expecting this.

Yeah,he said simply. We do.

There was no anger in his voice, which somehow made it worse.

I nodded once, glancing away for a second before looking back at him.

I didn’t handle that well,I admitted.

His gaze stayed on me.

You didn’t handle it at all,” he said.

I winced a little at that. But I knew he was telling the truth.

Fair,I muttered.

A small silence settled between us.

I shifted my weight slightly, then forced myself to stay still.

There was never going to be a right place and time for what I was about to say.

So I just said it.

I wasn’t trying to avoid you,” I said. Or the question.

Alexander didn’t interrupt me.

But I could see it in his eyes.

He had something to say to that.

Yet, he waited to see where I was going with this.

I justI exhaled slowly. I didn’t know how to answer you without making it sound worse than it is.

His brow furrowed slightly.

Worse?he repeated.

I nodded.

Yes.

I paused.

Then I said it.

The truth isI’m scared.

That got a reaction.

Subtle.

< Chapter 348

But I saw itthe slight shift in his posture, the way his gaze sharpened just a little.

Scared?he asked. Of what?

I let out a quiet breath. Of it being real.

His expression changed againthis time, confusion slipping in.

I shook my head slightly.

I know how that sounds,I said quickly. But justlisten first, okay?

He waited.

Not just being your Luna,I added. I already am that.

His eyes flickered slightly.

I mean being your wife,” I said. Legally. Officially. Beingpart of your name. Your family. Everything that comes with that.

I swallowed.

That partscares me.”

Alexander exhaled in a way that almost sounded like a laugh.

Then he looked serious again.

Why?he asked quietly.

And there it was.

The question I had been avoiding even in my own head.

I exhaled slowly.

I don’t knowmaybe because it’s permanent,” I said.

His expression didn’t change this time.

I went on anyway.

Maybe it’s because it’s not just about us anymore,” I said. It’severything. It’s being tied to you in a way that doesn’t leave room to step back if something goes wrong.”

I hesitated briefly.

Not that I think something will go wrong,” I added quickly. That’s not what I mean.

Then what do you mean?he asked.

I looked at him.

Really looked at him.

I mean that it stops being justFaye,” I said quietly, and starts being something bigger than me. Bigger

than us.”

His jaw tightened slightly.

And that’s a problem?he asked.

No,” I said immediately. It’s not a problem. It’s justa lot.

A small silence settled between us again.

Alexander, I didn’t say yes because I didn’t want to hurt you,” I said after a moment.

<Chapter 348

His eyes lifted slightly at that.

I said yes because I do want this,” I continued. I want you. I want us.

I took a small step closer.

But I was also hiding behind everything else,” I admitted. The timing. The baby. The situation. It made it

easier to say yes without really facing what it meant.

Alexander let out a slow breath, tucking his hands into his pockets.

He looked away for a moment, then back at me.

So what are you saying?he asked.

I held his gaze.

I’m saying I should have been honest from the beginning. And I’m sorry I wasn’t.”

I paused.

I’m not unsure about you,” I said. I’m unsure about how big this isand whether I’m ready to carry it the way it deserves.

That landed.

I could see it.

He nodded slowly.

Once.

Then again.

Like he was processing it.

Okay,” he said finally.

Just that.

Okay.

I blinked.

That’s it?I asked.

He huffed a quiet breath, running a hand through his hair.

What do you want me to say, Faye?he asked.

There wasn’t anger in his voice.

But there was something else.

I couldn’t quite place it.

< Chapter 348

I’d rather you tell me this thanavoid it,” he continued. So yes. Okay.

I frowned slightly.

You don’t sound okay.

I’m not,he said simply.

That hit harder than anything else.

He looked at me again.

And I don’t mean that in a dramatic way,he added. I justdon’t like hearing that you said yes without being sure.

I nodded slowly.

That’s fair.

A brief silence followed.

Then he exhaled again.

But I get it,he said.

I looked up at him.

You do?

Yes,he said. Take your time.”
