Chapter 417

ROMAN

At first, it was justrestlessness.

Not the normal kind. Not the kind that comes from boredom or having too much energy and nowhere to put it.

This was different. It sat under my skin, subtle at first, like a low hum I could almost ignore if I tried hard enough.

But the longer I stayed still, the louder it gotpressing, building, demanding something! didn’t yet know how to give.

I shifted on my bed, staring up at the ceiling, my fingers flexing unconsciously against the sheets. My body felt tight, like something inside me was stretching against its limits. My chest rose and fell a little faster than usual, and I couldn’t tell if I was anxious orsomething else.

I swallowed, dragging a hand down my face.

What is this

I already knew.

Or at least, I had an idea.

The full moon. I had heard about it enough to realize.

Even thinking it made something inside me reactsharp, immediate. My stomach twisted, and I sat up slowly, my feet hitting the floor as I leaned forward, elbows resting on my knees.

I had never shifted consciously.

Not once.

The only time it ever happenedwasn’t even my choice.

Mason.

The memory hit hard, uninvited. His voice. The way he pushed. The way he kept going, like he needed to prove something, like breaking me was some kind of achievement, I had tried to hold it in thenI remember that much. Tried to stay in control. Tried to keep whatever was inside me from surfacing.

But I couldn’t.

It took over.

I didn’t even understand what was happening until it was already done.

That wasn’t control.

That was survival.

And now-

Now there was no Mason.

No one provoking me.

No one pushing me to the edge.

And yet

My fingers curled into fists as I exhaled slowly.

The feeling was back.

Stronger.

Worse.

My skin felt too tight, like it didn’t belong to me anymore. Like something beneath it was waking up, stretching, testing the boundaries I didn’t even know how to manage.

My heart thudded harder in my chest, not out of fear, but something more primal. Something that made my senses feel sharper, my thoughts louder and quieter at the same time.

I stood abruptly.

Sitting still wasn’t helping.

If anything, it was making it worse.

I paced the room once, twice, running my hand through my hair as I tried to think. I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.

There wasn’t some manual for thisno stepbystep guide on how to deal with a wolf I barely understood.

Even thinking the words felt strange.

Chapter 417

I paused, gripping the edge of my desk, my head lowering slightly as I focused on my breathing.

In:

Out.

In-

My breath caught.

There it was again.

That pull.

Stronger this time.

It rolled through me like a wave, sudden and overwhelming, and I had to brace myself, my fingers tightening against the wood as a sharp sensation rippled through my body. Not pain. Not exactly. But intense enough to make me grit my teeth.

Not here,I muttered under my breath.

Definitely not here.

The last thing I needed was to lose control inside the house.

The thought alone was enough to make my stomach twist againthis time with something closer to dread. There were people here. People who didn’t deserve to get caught up in something I couldn’t control.

I straightened slowly, forcing myself to think past the noise in my head.

I needed space.

Somewhere open.

Somewhere far enough that if things went wrongno one else would be dragged into it.

A run.

Yeah.

That might help.

Or at least buy me time.

I pushed away from the desk and grabbed my sneakers, dropping into the chair just long

enough to pull them on.

My movements were quicker than usual, more restless, like my body was already trying to outrun something I couldn’t see.

The moment I stood again, that feeling surged once moresharper, more insistent.

Like a warning.

Or a countdown.

I clenched my jaw.

Yeah, I get it,” I muttered, grabbing a hoodie and pulling it over my head. I’m moving.

The air felt different as I stepped out of my room. Cooler. Thinner. Or maybe that was just

  1. me.

Everything feltheightened.

The faint sounds in the housethe distant movement, the quiet hum of lifestood out more than they should have.

My senses felt like they were stretching outward, picking up things I would normally miss. It was disorienting, but also impossible to ignore.

I moved quickly, not wanting to run into anyone.

I didn’t have the patience to explain anything right now.

Hell, I didn’t even understand it enough to explain it.

For a brief second, a thought crossed my mind.

Alpha Alexander.

Should I tell him?

My steps slowed just slightly as the idea settled in.

He was my mentor.

If anyone would know what to do, it would be him.

But then-

I exhaled quietly, shaking my head.

Chapter 417

With everything going on right now, I doubted my situation would even make the list of priorities. People were dealing with bigger things. More important things.

Me feeling like I was about to lose control of a wolf I barely knew how to handle?

On my own.

The closer I got to the exit, the stronger the feeling became.

It wasn’t just restlessness anymore.

It was urgency.

My pulse picked up again, a steady, heavy rhythm that seemed to echo in my ears. My muscles felt tighter, coiled, like they were preparing for something I hadn’t consciously agreed to.

Just a run,” I reminded myself quietly. That’s it.”

Maybe it would help.

Maybe burning off the energy would calm whatever this was.

Or maybe

I didn’t finish that thought.

Didn’t want to.

Each movement felt like I was holding onto something that was already slipping through m fingers.

Outside the gate.

That was the plan.

If anything happenedif I lost control-

At least it wouldn’t be here.

At least no one else would have to deal with it.
