ALEXANDER
I had already checked the office twice.
Then the training wing.
Roman wasn’t there.
He wasn’t in his room either.
I stopped one of the staff as they passed, my voice controlled, but firm enough that they didn’t hesitate.
“Have you seen Roman?”
The question should have been simple. It wasn’t. Not with everything happening already sitting at the back of my mind like a weight I couldn’t put down.
He hesitated for only a second before answering.
“He… went toward the gate earlier, Alpha.”
That was all he said.
But it was enough.
My expression didn’t change at first, though something in my thoughts pulled sharply.
The gate.
I turned away without thanking them, already moving.
Because that wasn’t normal.
Roman wasn’t someone who wandered off without purpose. He didn’t know this place well enough to treat it casually, and more importantly, he wasn’t reckless.
Not in the way that would take him outside the perimeter without understanding what that
meant.
So why?
My steps quickened slightly before I forced them back under control.
The house felt louder than usual as I moved through it. Not in sound, but in awareness. Every

“No” I replied, stopping just long enough for the word to land properly. “Not like that.”
there was a pause between us.
I didn’t need to explain further. Kyle knew what I meant. Roman wasn’t unpredictable in that way if anything, he was the opposite. Careful. Observant. Always aware of where he stood in relation to everything around him.
Which made this harder to understand.
I turned again, already heading toward the exit route that would lead closer to the gate.
Kyle kept pace beside me.
“I’ll go question the gate guards,” he offered.
I gave a short nod without slowing
My mind kept running through possibilities I didn’t like.
