A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 426

Chapter 426

THIRD POV

Faye walked straight ahead, barefoot against the cool floor, her steps quiet but deliberate as she crossed into the private sitting room.

The space was dim, shadows stretching across the furniture, untouched by movement or sound.

Except hers.

Alexander followed closely now, his gaze fixed on her, every instinct sharpening as the unease settled deeper.

Faye, stop.

She just kept going.

Toward the second door.

The one that led out.

Her hand lifted againReaching.

That was enough.

Alexander closed the distance quickly, stepping in front of her just as her fingers brushed the handle.

He caught her wrist.

Faye.

This time, her name wasn’t a call.

It was a command.

She resisted.

Like something in her was still trying to complete the action she had started.

Alexander’s grip tightened slightly, his other hand coming up to her shoulder as he turned her

toward him.

Where are you going?

Chapter 426

Still no response.

Her eyes-

That’s when he saw it.

They were open.

Focused.

But not on him.

Not really.

They looked through him.

Past him.

Like he wasn’t what she was trying to reach.

His jaw tightened.

Faye.”

Nothing.

That was when he shook her.

Enough to break through whatever hold had taken her.

Faye!

The sound cut through everything.

Her body stilled.

The tension in her shoulders dropped slightly as awareness rushed back in all at once.

What-

Her voice came out faint, disoriented.

She looked at him properly now.

Confusion clear in her eyes.

What’s going on?

Alexander held her for a second longer, searching her face like he needed to be sure she was

fully back.

Where were you going?he asked.

Her brows pulled together immediately.

II don’t know.

She glanced around slightly, like she was only just realizing where she was.

The sitting room.

The door.

His grip on her.

I was-

She stopped.

Her gaze snapped back to him.

I heard it again.

Alexander’s expression didn’t change much.

But something in his eyes hardened.

The voice?he repeated.

The chant,” she said quickly, her words coming faster now as she tried to explain it. It’s back. I could hear it clearly this time.

She looked at him, searching his face.

You didn’t hear it?

He shook his head.

No.

Her shoulders dropped slightly.

Because that meant it was only her.

He didn’t give her time to spiral into that thought.

Instead, he pulled her closer.

Chapter 4:6

Wrapping his arms around her in a way that left no space for distance.

Come on,he said quietly.

His voice was steady now.

We’re going back to bed.”

Faye didn’t argue.

Didn’t resist.

Because whatever had been pulling her before-

It was gone now.

At least for the moment.

And suddenly, the weight of it all felt heavier now that she was fully aware of it.

So she let him guide her.

Back through the room.

Back into the bedroom.

ALEXANDER

We got back into the room without saying much.

I closed the door behind us quietly, my hand lingering on the handle for a second longer than necessary before I let it go.

The silence that followed felt heavier nownot the calm kind from earlier, but something tighter.

I watched her as she moved toward the bed.

Slower this time.

She sat down first, then shifted slightly before lying back, staring up at the ceiling like she was trying to organise her thoughts before letting them out.

I didn’t rush her.

I walked around the bed, then sat beside her, my gaze still fixed on her face.

Waiting.

Because I knew she was going to say something.

And whatever it wasit mattered.

A lot.

For a few seconds, she didn’t speak.

Then-

I can see it now.

Her voice was quiet.

I frowned slightly. “See what?

She didn’t turn her head.

The mark,” she said. Clearly. The patterneverything.

I exhaled slowly, keeping my tone steady.

That doesn’t mean anything,” I said.

It came out easily.

Because even as I said it, I knew it wasn’t entirely true.

But I wasn’t about to let her sink into that conclusion without pushing back.

She turned her head then, looking at me.

And the look she gave me-

Like she had already walked through the fear and come out the other side of it.

As much as I’d love to believe that,” she said quietly, I’d rather face the reality.

I held her gaze.

Didn’t interrupt.

Because I knew what was coming next.

Helen made it clear, she continued. Once I can see it clearlyI’m out of time.”

The words landed between us, heavy and final.

And there’s no way to put it off.

I had nothing to say. Nothing that wouldn’t sound like a lie.

Or worselike false hope.

She shifted slightly on the bed, her eyes drifting away from mine for a second before she spoke again.

I know I said I wasn’t going anywhere,” she added.

Her voice didn’t waver.

But I’ve made up my mind.”

That got my full attention again.

I watched her carefully now.

I’m going to Stonevale.

The moment she said it, something settled in me too.

Because deep down-

That was the only option I had already been turning over in my head.

The only path that didn’t end with her breaking apart right here, piece by piece, while I stood there watching it happen.

I hadn’t wanted to be the one to say it.

Hadn’t wanted to be the one to push her toward something like that.

But now-

She was the one saying it.

Choosing it.

And that changed things.

I let out a slow breath, my gaze dropping briefly before lifting back to her.

I didn’t argue.

Didn’t question it.

Didn’t try to stop her.

Chapter 426

Because I couldn’t.

Not when I knew she was right.

Not when every other option led somewhere worse.

Okay,I said simply.

Her eyes flickered back to mine, searching, like she was expecting resistance.

But I gave her none.

Instead, I shifted closer, reaching out and pulling her gently toward me.

She didn’t resist.

Not even for a second.

I leaned back slightly against the headboard and guided her head down onto my chest, my arm wrapping around her shoulders instinctively.

My hand rested lightly against her arm, my thumb moving slowly back and forth without me thinking about it.
