Chapter 441
FAYE
I didn’t know how long I stayed there.
Long enough for the cold to settle fully into my skin.
Long enough for the moon to climb higher above the trees.
Long enough for my thoughts to finally quiet down.
So when I felt the presence behind me, I noticed it immediately.
It wasn’t threatening in any way.
It was…. familiar.
Alexander.
I turned slowly.
And there he was.
Alexander stood a few steps away, my robe folded over one arm as he watched me quietly beneath t
moonlight.
For a second, neither of us said anything.
Then he walked toward me.
Slow and calm. Like he didn’t want to disturb the stillness around us.
When he reached me, he spread the robe open slightly without a word, letting me slip my arms into it
before he settled it properly over my shoulders.
The warmth lingered faintly from his hands.
“Helen’s ready for us,” he said quietly.
I blinked once.
“Really?”
I glanced briefly toward the sky again
Alexander’s mouth twitched faintly
“Yes, really”
I huffed out a small breath through my nose before turning away from tum, beginning to walk back through
the woods.
He followed behind me easily

“I honestly didn’t think I’d been out here for long,” I admitted casually as we walked between the tr
“It hasn’t been too long,” Alexander replied behind me. “Barely an hour.”
That made me glance back at him.
I studied him for a second before a small smirk pulled at my lips.
“I thought you were busy getting briefed by Cole,” I said lightly. “But of course, you still managed to
eye on me.”
Alexander didn’t even deny it.
“I have many eyes,” he said simply. “Keeping an eye on you isn’t exactly difficult.”
There was the slightest pause before he added,
“No matter the distance.”
I shook my head lightly, laughing under my breath as I faced forward again.
Of course.
That sounded exactly like him.
We kept walking quietly after that, the sound of leaves shifting softly beneath our feet.
Then, after a moment-
“You’re taking this easier than I imagined,” he said.
ALEXANDER
She stopped walking so suddenly that I almost asked what was wrong.
But then she turned toward me instead.
Quietly
And before I could say anything, she reached for my hand
I let her take it without resistance, watching her carefully as she guided my right hand upward until my
pair rested against her chest
Right over her heartbeal
The steady rhythm hit against my hand instantly
Alive
Strong
I looked at her
Chapter 441
Faye held my wrist lightly to keep my hand there, her expression calmer than I expected it to be.
“You think I’m not scared?” she asked softly.
No.
I never thought that.
Not for a second.
“I am,” she admitted quietly. “Really scared.”
Hearing her say it out loud felt different from simply knowing it.
It felt more real.
“But…” she continued, her fingers tightening slightly around my wrist, “knowing you’re right here wit
makes it easier.”
I held her gaze silently.
“It makes me feel like maybe nothing can actually go wrong,” she said. “Even when the odds say
otherwise.”
For a moment, i forgot about everything else.
All of it faded beneath the simple weight of her trust in me.
Then-
She smiled slightly.
Small and soft.
“Besides,” she added lightly, “you still owe me that painting.”
I stared at her for half a second before a laugh escaped me unexpectedly
A real one
I shook my head faintly, almost in disbelief
“You’re thinking about the painting night now?
She looked entirely serious despite the faut amusement on her fase
And somehow, that only made it wise
Or better
I didn’t even know anymore
Lexhaled quietly still shaking my head a little before taking hur hand prope

“If…” The word slipped out automatically before I stopped myself.
No.
Not if.
“When this is over,” I corrected firmly.
My thumb brushed lightly against her hand.
“After the full moon,” I continued, “I’ll give you the painting.”
“As promised.”
For a second, things felt almost normal again.
Then suddenly-
Faye’s fingers slipped from mine.
Her hand flew to her head as she staggered slightly backward, her breathing changing instantly.
“Faye?”
My body tensed immediately.
She pressed harder against the side of her head, her eyes squeezing shut as if she was trying to block
something out.
Then she breathed out shakily,
“She’s calling.”
I frowned.
“What?”
Faye’s chest rose sharply as she tried to steady herself, her facial expression tightening with strain
“I can hear her.”
My eyes moved instinctively toward the direction of the pack house
Helen
For one brief second, I thought that was who she meant
Maybe my mother had sent someone looking for us Maybe
Then I saw Faye’s face properly
And realization hit immediately
Not Helen
A loving gth, sealed in pink
The voice was louder this time
Not distant
It wasn’t faint like before
It pressed against my head in waves, curling through my thoughts until I couldn’t even tell wh mind ended and it began
I sucked in a sharp breath, my fingers pressing harder against my temple
The sound wasn’t clear enough to fully understand.
But I could feel it.
Feel her
Calling again.
And the closer I tried to listen, the louder it became.
Like something pulling at me from far away.
Alexander pulled me against him.
“Faye,”
His voice cut through the noise sharply enough that I blinked.
“Look at me.”
I tried.
At first, it felt difficult focusing on anything except the sound clawing through my head, but Alexander hand tightened slightly against me, steady and warm
“Faye”
I forced myself to look up at him
His eyes locked onto mine immediately
And somehow that steadied me a little
We’re going to fresh thre with my mother tonight,” he said furly and then
His jaw tightened slightly
We shut that voice down for good
The determination in his voice settled into me stronger than the fear did
“One way of another
Chapter 441
I stared at him for a second.
Then slowly nodded.
“One way or another,” I repeated quietly.
