A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 445

FAYE

I didn’t understand the look on Helen’s face.

One second, she looked confused.

The next

She looked horrified.

Unlessshe whispered.

Then

No way,she added.

The words came out sharper than anything she had said since the ritual began.

Her eyes lifted immediately toward Alexander and me.

For the first time since this entire thing started, Helen actually looked shaken.

Alexander frowned instantly.

What?

But Helen barely seemed to hear him.

Her attention had already shifted somewhere else entirely.

Where’s the young man?she asked quickly. Roman.”

Both Alexander and I looked at each other.

Roman?

My brows pulled together in confusion.

Why was she suddenly asking about Roman?

She barely even knew him.

The only interaction they had shared was yesterday.

And now she was saying his name like he was somehow connected to whatever had just

happened in this room.

Maybe she needed something.

OO

Maybe there was another part of the ritual.

An herb.

An object.

Maybe she wanted him to go fetch something quickly.

But before either of us could answer-

Helen rushed out of the room.

Actually rushed.

The robe around her shifted sharply with the movement as she disappeared through the doorway almost immediately.

I stared after her.

What just happened?I asked weakly.

Alexander was already standing fully now.

His expression had hardened completely.

And somehow, that scared me more.

Because Alexander rarely looked unsettled.

Even during dangerous situations, he always seemed grounded.

But now-

He looked tense, confused, almost alarmed.

I’ll check,he said quickly.

Then his eyes moved to me immediately.

Stay here.

I almost laughed at that.

Not because it was funny.

But because there was absolutely no way I was staying behind after what just happened.

Still, I nodded faintly because he was already moving toward the door before I could even respond

properly.

The moment he disappeared outside, silence swallowed the room again.

Only this time, it didn’t feel calm anymore.

It felt wrong.

I stayed there for barely a few seconds before my chest tightened painfully.

Something wasn’t right.

I could feel it.

Deep down.

My heartbeat quickened.

And before I even fully realized what I was doing-

I followed them.

The hallway outside felt colder than before.

Or maybe that was just me.

I moved quickly despite the exhaustion still weighing heavily on my body from the ritual.

My legs felt weak.

My chest still hurt faintly.

But none of that mattered right now.

Because the urgency in Helen’s face refused to leave my head.

Why Roman?

Why him?

The further I walked, the stronger the unease became.

And then I saw them.

Alexander and Helen stood at the entrance of Roman’s room.

The door was already open.

My steps slowed immediately.

Something inside me dropped before I even reached them.

Alexander was already inside.

On his knees.

O

Chapter 445-

And when I finally got close enough to see past him

My breath caught.

Roman was lying on the bare floor.

His upper body was naked.

Sweat drenched his skin completely like he had just survived something brutal.

His chest rose and fell unevenly.

Like he couldn’t breathe properly.

And his eyes-

My stomach tightened sharply.

They were glowing silver.

Not gold.

Silver.

Roman?I breathed out.

Alexander grabbed him by the shoulders carefully.

Roman.

Alexander’s voice was sharp.

Roman looked terrible.

Not injured exactly.

But drained.

Like something had ripped through him from the inside.

His entire body looked tense, even lying there.

Like he had been fighting something before we arrived.

Panic immediately climbed higher into my chest.

What’s happening?I asked quickly.

My voice sounded smaller than I intended.

Helen finally stepped forward slowly.

And unlike the rest of us-

She looked calm now.

Like seeing Roman there had confirmed something for her.

Her gaze shifted toward me fully.

Then she spoke.

Here,” she said quietly, is your anchor, Faye.

I stared at her.

For a moment, I genuinely thought I heard her wrong.

My anchor?

I looked between her and Roman in complete confusion.

What?

Helen didn’t say anything.

Alexander slowly looked up at his mother from where he knelt beside Roman.

Then

Roman spoke weakly.

I’m sorryAlpha.”

His voice barely sounded like his own.

Rough, strained, and exhausted.

My eyes snapped back toward him.

The silver glow beneath his eyes flickered faintly.

Then disappeared completely.

Just like that.

Alexander stared at him for a second longer.

And somehow, the silence that followed felt worse than shouting.

Slowly….

Alexander stood up.

He turned fully toward Helen now.

What,” he asked seriously, is going on here?
