A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 482

THIRD POV

The silence lasted only a fraction of a second after the howl.

Then suddenly-

A massive wolf burst out of the bushes, knocking Darren to the ground.

The force of the impact sent Darren crashing backward before he could even react properly.

Gasps erupted across the clearing instantly.

The dagger flew from Darren’s hand as his body slammed hard against the dirt beside the altar.

Alexander froze for half a heartbeat.

Then recognition hit him immediately.

Roman.

Stonevale wolves staggered backward uneasily.

Some lowered their heads slightly without meaning to.

Others looked outright confused.

Because they could feel it too.

That pressure.

That command buried naturally inside Roman’s presence now that his wolf had fully awakened.

And Darren

Darren looked horrified.

Not just attacked.

Horrified.

Because as a Stonevale wolf, he understood exactly what he was sensing.

An Alpha bloodline.

A direct Alpha.

But his confusion was obvious too.

His expression twisted almost unnaturally as he stared at the wolf standing over him.

Like his mind physically refused to connect the possibility.

Because Roman was gone.

He was the last of his bloodline.

That hesitation nearly got him killed.

Roman lunged again immediately.

A snarl ripped from him as he launched directly toward Darren’s throat.

Pure rage.

Pure instinct.

But Darren reacted just in time this round.

Years of survival kicked in violently.

He rolled hard across the dirt, fingers scrambling desperately until they closed around the silver dagger again.

Then he struck.

The blade sank directly into Roman’s side.

The reaction was immediate.

Roman’s wolf cried out violently.

A raw, painful sound that tore through the clearing.

The silver burned instantly.

Even from where Alexander stood, he could smell it.

Roman recoiled hard before twisting away from another attempted strike.

Then, without warning-

The wolf disappeared into the nearby bushes.

Fast.

Too fast for most eyes to properly follow.

Darren staggered back to his feet, breathing heavily now.

His face pale.

Sweat covering his forehead.

Darren genuinely looked afraid.

Not arrogant.

Not smug.

Afraid.

Find him!Darren barked immediately.

But no one moved.

Not immediately.

Because the clearing itself had descended into confusion.

The Stonevale wolves no longer looked certain.

Roman’s appearance had shattered something in the atmosphere.

And Janet-

Janet was gone.

Alexander noticed it almost immediately.

The witch had disappeared completely during the chaos.

Coward.

Alexander barely cared.

Right now, Roman was the problem.

Alexander’s jaw tightened hard.

Silver alone was dangerous enough.

But who knew what Janet had coated that dagger with for ritual purposes.

Dark magic.

Poison.

Something worse.

Roman could die from that wound

And suddenly, Alexander felt a sharp wave of anger toward the younger Alpha.

Reckless idiot

He came charging into this alone.

Took a silver blade directly to the body.

And now he was somewhere bleeding out in the woods.

Alexander exhaled sharply through his nose.

Because the truth was-

If Roman died now, it wouldn’t just affect Faye’s survival.

Somewhere along the line, Alexander had started feeling responsible for him too.

Not just as a political issue.

Not as an obligation.

But personally.

And that realization irritated him more than he cared to admit.

Stonevale wolves began moving aggressively.

Several rushed toward the bushes Roman disappeared into.

Others circled Alexander cautiously again.

Darren pointed violently toward him.

Kill him!he shouted.

But before they could properly regroup-

Alexander felt it.

His wolves were close.

Very close now.

The full moon sharpened his senses brutally tonight.

And he could feel Blood Crescent warriors tearing through Stonevale’s defenses nearby.

They had made it in.

Chapter 481

Good.

Alexander immediately understood what he needed to do.

Without hesitation-

He threw his head back and howled.

The sound exploded across the territory.

A direct call.

A signal.

The response came almost instantly.

Howls answered from multiple directions deep within the woods.

Closer than before.

Fast approaching.

Several Stonevale wolves visibly panicked.

Then the forest erupted.

Blood Crescent wolves burst into the clearing from nearly every direction at once.

Violent snarls filled the air immediately.

Bodies collided.

Growls exploded everywhere.

The battle reignited instantly, only now the advantage had shifted completely.

Alexander barely spared the fighting another glance.

He left it to them.

His attention had already returned to the altar.

To Faye.

He crossed the clearing quickly.

And suddenly-

Everything else around him faded again.

Because now that he was finally standing beside her properly

Now that he could really see her-

The sight nearly destroyed him.

Faye looked pale beneath the moonlight.

Too pale now.

Her body remained unnaturally still against the altar stone.

Her hair spread slightly around her.

The white robe soaked faintly with blood near her wrists.

Alexander stopped breathing for a second.

Literally.

Because seeing her like this hurt in a way he genuinely didn’t know how to process.

Not unconscious.

Not injured.

Dead.

The word itself refused to settle fully inside his head.

Slowly, carefully-

Alexander reached down and touched her face gently.

Cold.

Not fully.

But colder than she should have been.

Pain tore through his chest so sharply it almost physically staggered him.

Claim

For one terrible moment, it genuinely felt like someone had reached into his chest and ripped his own heart apart.

His jaw clenched immediately.

Hard.

Because now was not the time.

He could break later.

Chapter 481

Not now.

Not here.

Movement approached from behind him.

Kyle.

Alexander recognized the presence before he even spoke.

Claw

Kyle slowed as he reached the altar, his expression immediately changing the second he saw Faye properly.

Alexander looked away slightly before Kyle could properly read his expression.

He didn’t want that right now.

Didn’t want anyone seeing what was underneath the control he was barely holding together.

Take her to Helen,Alexander said quietly.

Kyle blinked once.

To the guest house.”

Kyle hesitated only briefly before nodding.

Then finally he asked carefully,

What about you, Alpha?

Alexander’s eyes shifted slowly toward the dark side of the woods where Roman disappeared earlier.

The bushes remained still now.

Silent.

I have to find Roman,Alexander answered.

Kyle frowned immediately.

Clearly confused.

Because as far as he knew, Roman was nowhere near this mission tonight.

He had no idea Roman had even been involved.

But Kyle knew better than to question Alexander in the middle of this situation.

So instead, he simply nodded once.

Then carefully-

He lifted Faye’s body into his arms.

Alexander looked away again immediately afterward.

Claim

Because somehow seeing someone else carry her hurt almost as much as seeing her lying

there.

Kyle turned and began moving quickly toward the exit alongside several Blood Crescent warriors securing the area.

Alexander remained still for one more second.

Listeningtracking.

Then suddenly

He shifted fully.

And without another pause

Alexander’s wolf dove directly into the side of the woods where Roman’s wolf had

disappeared.
