BLOOD CRESCENT
ALEXANDER
I was leaning against the edge of my desk with my arms folded across my chest when Faye walked int my office.
I had a feeling this conversation was coming. After the way we had left things the previous night, there was no way she would simply pretend the matter had ended there.
She closed the door behind her and walked toward me, stopping just a few feet away. There was something in her expression that immediately caught my attention.
“I actually went through everything last night,” she began.
I looked at her without interrupting.
“I mean everything,” she clarified. “I went through all the records with Cole’s help. We compared the hard-copy petitions with the digital records on your tablet and then with the soft-copy files Cole had. We didn’t leave anything out.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “Everything matched.”
I remained silent, allowing her to finish whatever she had come to say. I appreciated the fact that she hadn’t simply accepted my explanation or someone else’s. She had gone through the trouble of verifying everything herself.
When she finally stopped speaking, I looked at her før a brief moment before asking, “What now?”
She had obviously been expecting that question. She wasted no time.
“I think you need to visit the eastern border yourself,” she said without hesitation.
I didn’t respond immediately.
Faye continued, “I know you’re busy, Alexander. No one expects you to personally supervise every project or attend to every complaint in every part of Blood Crescent.”

She spoke calmly, making sure I understood she wasn’t criticizing me. It was funny when she did that.
“It makes sense that you rely on reports,” she continued. “You approve projects, release funds, assign responsibilities, and then receive updates through the people you’ve entrusted with those duties. That’s how any large territory is managed.”
I simply listened.
“But sometimes,” she said thoughtfully, “things become complicated somewhere along the line.
She searched my face before continuing.
“The farther information has to travel through different people, the more opportunities there are for mistakes… or something worse.”
Chapter 558-
That made me pay closer attention.
“You’ve been depending on other people to represent you,” she continued, “because you physically can’ everywhere at once. That’s understandable.”
She took another step closer
“The problem is that the people living at the eastern border don’t see everything you do from here. They don’t see the petitions arriving on your desk. They don’t see you approving projects or signing documer They don’t see the funds being released. They only see what eventually reaches them.”
She looked directly into my eyes.
“And if what reaches them isn’t exactly as you approved…”
She paused.
“… then, from their perspective, their Alpha ignored them.”
I remained quiet.
Her words settled heavily in my mind.
“They begin to see you as someone who’s too far away,” she continued softly. “Someone who’s unavailab Someone they can’t reach.”
Her expression softened.
“They may even convince themselves that you’re neglecting them… even when you aren’t.”
For the first time since she started speaking, I looked away from her.
My thoughts immediately began connecting things I hadn’t connected before.
Everything on my desk matched perfectly. Every approval, every release of funds, every official response.
Yet somehow, the people at the eastern border believed they had been abandoned.
How?
“Who explains the truth to them?” Faye asked quietly, pulling my attention back to her.
She didn’t wait for an answer.
“The same middlemen who are supposed to carry your responses?”
Her voice remained calm.

“The same people responsible for delivering those approvals, supervising those projects, and communicating with the people living there?”
I stared at her.
“What if,” she continued carefully, “those are the same people who failed somewhere along the way?
I said nothing.

Because, at that moment…
A thought crossed my mind that I had never seriously entertained before. Because I trusted my men to extent, and I believed they all knew better than to cross me.
Was it possible…
Wa
tually possible that some of the projects had been tampered with after I approved them?
ds have disappeared before reaching their intended destination?
ports submitted to me have been altered?
aps…
of my responses had never reached the eastern border at all.
