Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 10

Even the most beautiful flower will eventually wither.

Sweet romance, like a blooming rose, will fade with time.

In a man's eyes, a woman was like an article of clothing. He might wear a nice one a few more times, but even the most beautiful clothes eventually become old.

Janina took a big gulp of her drink and looked out the window.

"I want a divorce."

Maggie nodded in agreement. She had always thought a career was much better than a man. You could do what you want, when you want, your money was your own, and you didn't have to wait on anyone.

"Good thing you don't have kids, it'll be a cleaner break. Do you have any proof that they're cheating? Let me tell you, you can't rely on men. In a divorce, you have to get what's yours. Only money gives you real security."

Maggie ordered a bottle of red wine, filled two glasses, and continued.

"Here, drink this. After this, you're going to focus on your career. You used to be the one with the most potential out of all of us. Show him what you've got. Make that bastard see what a huge mistake he made letting someone as amazing as you go. Let him regret it."

With that, Maggie pushed one of the wine glasses toward Janina.

Janina looked at Maggie guiltily. "Actually... I just found out I'm pregnant."

Maggie had just taken a mouthful of wine. Hearing Janina's words, she nearly spit it out. "What? You're really pregnant?"

"I am. About a month along." Janina felt the timing couldn't be worse.

"So what are you going to do? Does Julius know?" Maggie asked, forgetting about her wine.

"I haven't told him. I don't want the baby."

"I bought a recording pen. Tonight, I'll slip one in his pocket and put another one in his car. I should be able to record something useful."

Janina picked up a piece of steak with her fork. It tasted like ash in her mouth, filled only with a bitter taste.

She had never imagined that she would one day be sitting with her friend, plotting how to catch her husband cheating with his mistress.

She had thought their love would last a lifetime, that the man she loved would grow old with her, surrounded by children and grandchildren.

She pictured them with gray hair, him still holding her hand as they crossed the street, until the day they were buried side-by-side.

Maggie let out a small laugh. "See? You haven't been completely blinded by love after all."

The two of them discussed more details. Maggie would find a lawyer, and Janina would focus on getting the evidence she needed to prepare for the divorce.
