"But that's okay," she thought. "I'll come back as a strong woman, and I'll make sure to live my life beautifully."
Even if her old ambitions were now impossible, there was no harm in dreaming.
"Hmm... I'd want to keep writing, become an author. And I'd want to travel the world, see all the great mountains and rivers."
Janina looked at her friend, a wide smile spreading across her face. "You'll make it happen. I'll be waiting for your masterpiece."
Summer smiled back, as if her dream were within reach, and nodded.
"Okay. Assuming I live long enough to write it."
She had become surprisingly calm about death, and the topic no longer felt so heavy.
As they were talking, a knock came from the door. It was the styling team Ava had hired.
"Miss Holt, may we come in?"
Though the person tried to disguise their voice, Janina recognized it instantly. If she wasn't mistaken, it was Alan. His voice was too distinctive.
"Please, come in," Janina said.
Ava and Alan entered together.
Ava was dressed in a couture gown, her silver hair cut in a chic bob. With her red lips and the latest Nova Group diamond earrings, she was a striking sight.
"Oh my god, my darling! I thought you were going to spend the rest of your life revolving around your love life! When I heard you were back in the design world, I rushed back to congratulate you," Alan exclaimed, pulling Janina into a hug.
"Long time no see, Alan. You're looking more handsome than ever." Janina was happy to see her old friend again.
Alan's gaze shifted to Janina's face, and his eyes widened in surprise.
"Heavens, darling, your skin is absolutely glowing! It seems those three years as a trophy wife weren't for nothing. Your complexion is so much better than hers, there's no comparison."
If you didn't know Alan, you might think his words were intentionally malicious. But that was just his personality—blunt and unfiltered.
Janina playfully slapped his shoulder. "I think you're deliberately trying to stir up trouble between Summer and me. And for the record, I'm not a trophy wife anymore. I'm single."
Worried Summer might take it the wrong way, Janina explained patiently, "Don't mind him. Alan can be a bit eccentric. Don't take what he says to heart."
Summer shook her head with a gentle smile. "What do you take me for? I think the way you two interact is wonderful. And Mr. Alan is very genuine. You're lucky to have a friend like him."
That compliment clearly went to Alan's head, and even Ava couldn't help but laugh.
