Under the collective gaze of contempt, disgust, and hatred from everyone around him, Vincent's face burned as if struck by an invisible hand—sharp, searing, like razor blades slicing across his skin. He could only imagine how they were all mocking his incompetence.
He trembled, unable to find the courage to even look at Summer.
He remembered their first big fight back in Solara. He and Summer had taken Iris to a coffee shop, and he had stepped away to use the restroom.
When he came back, he saw Summer slap Iris across the face.
He had rushed over, pulled Iris into his arms, and slapped Summer in return.
After that, the instances of Summer 'bullying' Iris became more frequent. Each time, Iris would come to him, crying helplessly.
Slowly, the chasm between him and his wife had grown wider and wider.
Summer used to try to explain, but he always dismissed it as defensiveness. Eventually, when another incident occurred, she stopped explaining altogether and simply fell silent.
And just a month ago, she had sent him the diagnosis, asking him to pay for her medical bills.
At the time, he had been convinced it was just another ploy to get more money out of him.
He had instinctively assumed the report was fake.
Thinking back on everything he had done to his wife, Vincent felt his body and soul tear apart.
How could she be sick...
Impossible!
She had always been so healthy...
As if terrified to face reality, the more he denied it, the more the truth bore down on him.
How had things come to this?
How had he and Summer ended up here? No!
Vincent swayed, wanting to get closer to Summer, but when he took two steps forward, a pair of bodyguards blocked his path.
He could only stare at his wife on the stage and cry out in repentance.
