Hearing May's accusation, Natalie let out a cold laugh.
"Only a dog would fight over a piece of shit. A loser like him? I wouldn't even deign to look at him, let alone fight you for him. That's ridiculous!"
Natalie had no desire to waste any more time on them. She took Janina's arm and started to leave, but then she couldn't help stopping.
"May, Fannie, I'm warning you. If you ever slander me again, I'll take a knife to you both! Try me if you don't believe it."
She shot a sharp, chilling glare at them, and a shiver ran down both their spines.
Natalie's expression was terrifying.
Something wasn't right. A person who was normally so meek suddenly becoming this aggressive could mean she had some kind of mental problem.
May wanted to say more about the boyfriend, but when she met Natalie's fierce gaze, she lost her nerve.
All she could do was grind her teeth in frustration. But the thought that Natalie might be unstable made her unclench her jaw.
May and Fannie clutched their swollen faces and stormed off in a huff.
After they were gone, West looked back and forth between his two sisters.
His eyes were filled with admiration and relief, and his voice swelled with pride.
"Wow! My two sisters are amazing."
His gaze landed on Natalie, and his smile widened.
"Natalie, your intensity just now even scared me. That was some serious power. You did a good job standing up for yourself. I bet they won't dare to spread rumors anymore."
"Yeah. They're always causing trouble for me. If I hear them talking again, I'll teach them another lesson."
"Exactly. With people like that, the weaker you act, the more they bully you. Sometimes, a fist is the only way to shut them up. Well done!" Janina gave Natalie a thumbs-up.
She had always thought Natalie was the most timid of the siblings, but she was thrilled to see this fiery side of her.
It was a relief.
Only by being strong could you avoid being bullied.
What was meant to be normal workplace motivation inadvertently fanned the flames of jealousy in others.
Slowly but surely, the other colleagues began to isolate Natalie.
"Do you know what the most ridiculous part is?" Natalie asked, a bitter smile on her lips.
Janina and West remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
"They would whisper in the breakroom that I was using 'special services' to attract clients."
As she said this, Natalie's expression was calm, as if she were recounting someone else's story. She had grown used to it.
The isolation and exclusion soon escalated to more tangible forms of harassment.
Things like putting laxatives in her water bottle, causing her to run to the bathroom all day.
Or locking her in the storage room while she was on her lunch break.
