Janina forced herself to stay calm. She looked at the doctor and asked, "Is my mother outside?"
The doctor didn't stop what he was doing. While preparing the surgical tools, he replied, "Don't worry, your parents are waiting right outside the operating room. They've already prepared everything for the baby."
Janina was stunned into silence.
She had deliberately asked about her mother to test him, and he had answered without hesitation that her mother was there.
Janina glanced at her phone. It was 3:30 PM. Her mother had called her just before two o'clock, and at that time, her parents were still in the countryside.
Even if they had rushed back immediately, there was no way they could have gotten to the hospital this quickly.
Yet the doctor claimed both her parents were right outside.
Furthermore, a C-section required her signature on a consent form, but since she'd been brought in, no one had asked her to sign anything.
She was certain something was wrong with this doctor.
She took out the phone from her pocket and quietly sent a message to her friends' group chat.
[Call the police. Someone is trying to harm me.]
She also sent her West's phone number and then her current location.
Thank goodness she had kept her phone on her, just in case of an emergency. She couldn't make a call in the operating room, but she could send a text.
She trusted that her friends would see the message, contact her brother, and find a way to rescue her.
The doctor was still busy with pre-op preparations and hadn't noticed her actions.
After sending the message, Janina's anxiety grew. If she waited for the police to arrive, it might be too late.
"I've always been scared of pain, so I think I'm just really nervous. I can't hold it anymore, doctor. Please, just give me five minutes. I'll come right back."
The doctor frowned, his voice suddenly turning cold. "You're carrying twins, and their position is not ideal. The situation is very serious. We need to operate immediately, or both you and your babies will be in mortal danger."
Janina's palms were sweating. She didn't know how much of what he said was true, but she knew one thing for sure: if she stayed here, she would be in real danger.
She struggled to get off the bed. "I know, doctor. I'll come right back after I use the bathroom."
"Hey, who said you could get down? We're about to start the surgery. You can't leave. Lie back down. I'll insert a catheter," the nurse behind the doctor snapped at Janina.
As she spoke, the nurse approached with a catheter in her hand.
Panic seized Janina. She quickly stopped the nurse, but her gaze was fixed on the doctor preparing the anesthesia. "Wait, doctor, I can't have a catheter."
Janina spoke up before the doctor could answer, her voice strained. "I... I really need to poop. Like, right now."
