"I'm here to see you, of course. What's wrong, Miss Moore? Not happy to see me?"
The man strolled into the room, hands in his pockets, a thuggish look on his face as he eyed Yvonne.
He plopped down on the opposite bed, casually crossing one leg over the other.
"What do you want from me?" Yvonne wished she could make this pest disappear.
She glanced nervously toward the door, her eyes filled with fear and resentment, terrified someone would walk in.
"Nothing. My luck's been a bit down lately, so I thought I'd ask you for a little loan," the man said, completely ignoring Yvonne's livid expression, looking perfectly at ease.
"You... we had a deal! You were supposed to take the money and disappear. We would have nothing to do with each other. Why are you still in Clayborne City?"
Yvonne was so angry her face turned green. She shot the man a contemptuous glare.
"Relax. Just give me another twenty grand, and I promise, you'll never see me again. I'll never bother you again, and I'll leave Clayborne City." John even raised his right hand as if taking a solemn oath.
What a joke. Leave Clayborne City? As if.
He wasn't about to give up such a lucrative connection. Clayborne City was his home, and he wasn't leaving for anything.
He was just saying whatever it took to get the money from Yvonne.
"You said that last time. I don't have any money! It's useless coming to me."
John stroked his chin with a sleazy grin.
"Two hundred thousand to buy my silence. It's a bargain. If you refuse, I'll just have to tell your boyfriend the truth. Then I'll tell Janina. That way, I get paid twice, probably even more than what I'm asking from you."
"John, don't threaten me. Even if you tell them, who would believe you? You were the one who hit her with your bike. What does that have to do with me? You also fled the scene. If they find out, you're the one who's going to jail. All I did was hire you as a delivery guy to drop off a bouquet of flowers. That's all you were."
Yvonne stared him down, completely unfazed by his threats, her words sharp and logical.
Who could prove that John 'accidentally' running into Janina was at her instruction? No one would believe it. Even if the police got involved, they'd find no evidence.
