Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 26

This was her third trip to the restroom. As she came out, she was about to head back downstairs to the reception hall for more food when someone rushing up the stairs from the first-floor landing bumped into her.

Janina's small handbag slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor.

She had just taken a tissue out of it, and the zipper was still open. The contents scattered everywhere.

"I'm so sorry, so sorry!"

The woman immediately apologized, bending down to scoop everything back into the bag before handing it to Janina.

"I'm really so sorry. I was in too much of a hurry," the woman apologized again. She had a face Janina didn't recognize.

Judging by her attire, she was likely one of the guests.

The woman had apologized twice, so Janina couldn't really get angry. She took the handbag and left.

The main hall was too loud, and she wasn't fond of the atmosphere anyway. She decided to head back to the dessert area.

Her goal for the night was to keep a low profile and not wander around too much.

The people at this estate were not simple. She had a feeling someone might try to cause trouble for her tonight.

Sometimes, Janina thought she had a talent for jinxing herself. Whatever she feared seemed to come true.

She hadn't been at the dessert table for more than ten minutes when someone approached her.

Janina was in the middle of a bite of cake, her mouth still full, when she looked up at the woman standing before her.

It was Heather, Mrs. Aurelius's personal maid.

Heather was a master of sucking up to the right people, and she was firmly in Elena's camp.

Even though she was just a maid, in her eyes, Janina was from a common family and was completely unworthy of Master Aurelius. As such, she held Janina in contempt.

But despite her inner disdain, she put on a professional front, smiling at Janina.

"Miss Holt, the mistress would like to see you."

"What does she want?" Janina asked, swallowing the cake in her mouth.

She highly doubted Elena was seeking her out for a friendly chat.

"Well…"

The stench of a cheap soap opera plot.

She nodded cooperatively. "Alright. I'll be there as soon as I finish this cake."

"The mistress asked for you to come immediately," Heather insisted, making no move to leave.

With a sigh, Janina started walking, finishing her cake as she went.

"How does a ring just go missing from someone's hand?" she asked Heather, her right hand casually covering her handbag with a couple of napkins as she discreetly felt around inside.

She suddenly remembered being bumped into on the staircase.

Her bag had spilled open, and that woman had picked everything up for her.

If Yvonne wanted to frame her, her handbag was the only place to hide the stolen item.

When it came to Yvonne, she couldn't afford to be careless. That woman was vicious.

Heather walked ahead, turning her head to answer Janina's question.

"Someone spilled a drink on Miss Moore's dress earlier, so she went upstairs to change. She might have taken the ring off then. When she came back down, she realized it was gone."
