Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 272

He gave her a quick reminder, "Don't change your clothes."

"We need to keep a close eye on Madonna tomorrow. She's the one who handles all the children they target." Janina's eyes hardened, an indescribable hatred simmering within her. To think a doctor, sworn to save lives, could be so corrupt.

"Right. Don't worry, I'll be watching from the shadows."

The night was vast and dark. It was destined to be an eventful one.

Janina drifted in and out of a restless sleep all night, terrified that something might go wrong.

Finally, at five in the morning, Madonna appeared in the ward. She glanced at the family members dozing in their chairs. "Vivian's family, the test results are in."

Her voice jolted everyone awake, even startling the new mother sleeping in the adjacent bed.

Vivian's husband shot to his feet. "The results? What are the results?" he asked frantically.

Madonna didn't answer immediately, her eyes sweeping over Janina, who kept her head down. "The patient needs to be moved to a special ward. Pack up her belongings. A nurse will be here in a few minutes to help you with the transfer."

Janina nodded without a word and turned to start packing Vivian's things. But as she turned, Madonna's expression froze for a second. There was something familiar about the woman's eyes, her profile. And her back… it looked a little like…

The suspicion vanished as quickly as it had appeared. Why would Janina Holt be working as a caregiver at New Vista Medical Center? She'd just given birth a little over a month ago.

Dismissing the thought, Madonna led Vivian's husband and mother-in-law to the office.

He sagged, his face a mask of horror.

Bob's mother was stunned. Vivian had always been a decent woman. How could she possibly have syphilis? Unless…

She remembered that Vivian had gone to stay with her own family for over a month during her pregnancy. Could she have been infected then? The more Bob's mother thought about it, the more certain she became. Vivian had been unfaithful during her pregnancy, cheating on her son and passing the disease to their baby.

Bob's mother burst into tears. "Oh, my son, why is life so cruel to you? Vivian has gone too far, cheating on you like this…"

Bob winced at his mother's accusation, his guilt keeping him silent.

Seeing his chance, Jensen finally spoke, looking directly at Bob. "You gave the syphilis to Vivian," he said, each word landing like a hammer blow. "You know best whether you've been messing around outside your marriage."
