From registration to diagnosis, from the X-ray to the follow-up consultation, Finch handled everything.
Fortunately, it wasn't a fracture, just a sprain. With a few days of rest, it would heal completely.
The doctor re-dressed and bandaged her ankle.
They spent half the day at the hospital, and by the time they returned to the hotel, it was nearly six o'clock.
Wendy hadn't forgotten her promise to treat Finch to dinner. After all, he had spent the entire day running around for her, and she felt deeply indebted.
She'd noticed earlier that there were plenty of restaurants near the hotel, so they wouldn't have to go far.
"Let's go downstairs for dinner. What would you like to eat? My treat."
Finch glanced at her bandaged foot and shook his head.
"You can't go anywhere like that. You just stay here and rest. I'll go buy something downstairs and bring it up. We can eat in the room."
Wendy considered it. That made sense. It was hot outside, and going out would just mean getting sweaty again. She nodded.
"Wait, don't go down yet. Let me check online if they deliver."
She had promised to treat him, and while takeout was a bit unceremonious, she couldn't let him pay.
Wendy opened a food delivery app. Sure enough, the restaurants downstairs delivered directly to the hotel.
"They deliver. What do you feel like eating? You pick first."
Wendy handed her phone to Finch.
Finch didn't hesitate. He took the phone and ordered a couple of dishes, both of them light and simple.
While they waited for the food, Finch didn't stay idle. He brought her a pair of disposable slippers, carefully took off her sneakers, and helped her put them on.
Then he helped her to the bathroom to wash her hands. He was thoughtful and attentive in every way.
Just as Finch finished, the food arrived.
He brought the meal into the room, first meticulously wiping down the table with a tissue before washing his hands again.
They had ordered three dishes and a soup, more than enough for two people.
She wouldn't feel comfortable otherwise.
She'd take a proper bath tomorrow when she got home. The hotel room didn't have a bathtub, which was inconvenient.
Then again, even if it did, she wouldn't dare use it. She didn't even use the hotel towels, let alone the bathtub.
Wendy felt like she was being pampered by a man for the first time in her life, a feeling of happiness that was both surprising and delightful.
She wasn't sure if it was the medicine from the hospital or a placebo effect, but her foot didn't hurt at all anymore.
As silence fell, the only sound was the hum of the air conditioner.
The room was suddenly filled with an awkward tension.
Finch felt it was time for him to leave. He stood up.
"Well, I should get back to my room. Call me if you need anything. I'm right next door."
"Okay, you should get some rest too. It's been a long day," Wendy said, waving her hand and trying to appear calm.
