After the banquet, Julius brought Yvonne out with him.
"Janina, just to let you know, Yvonne is staying with us tonight." Julius said coldly.
It was less of a discussion and more of an order.
"Fine," Janina replied flatly, her face impassive.
Who he brought home was his business, not hers.
She opened the car door herself and slid into the back seat.
All the twisted, frenzied jealousy and pain had stemmed from her obsession with Julius.
An obsession that had consumed her for ten years.
No, in a month, it would have been eleven.
Now, watching Julius with Yvonne, she saw a mirror of her own past feelings for him. Theirs was a passion at its peak, while she had already pulled herself free from her own madness.
Yvonne glanced at Julius, hesitating awkwardly by the car. She wanted to sit in the front passenger seat, but she worried it would look too deliberate. At the same time, she definitely didn't want to sit in the back with Janina.
She wanted to be closer to Julius, but she couldn't be the one to suggest it. She looked at him, her expression timid, like a little rabbit left out in the cold.
Julius was still a bit thrown by Janina's compliant behavior today. His sharp eyes flickered to the woman already settled in the back before he opened the front passenger door.
"Yvonne, you'll be more comfortable up here."
And so, Yvonne 'reluctantly' took her seat in the front.
"Miss Holt, we have to clear this up tonight. Please, just open the door. It will only take a minute," Yvonne persisted, her tone suggesting she wouldn't give up until she got what she wanted.
Annoyed, Janina turned on her phone's video recorder and pointed it at the door. She got up to open it, curious to see what kind of game Yvonne was playing.
Outside stood Yvonne, holding a cup. She was wearing a blue plaid silk pajama top—long and loose, the hem reaching her knees, leaving her toned legs bare. Janina recognized it instantly. It was one of Julius's pajama tops.
Yvonne's intention was obvious: she was staking her claim.
Noticing Janina's eyes on her, Yvonne raised an eyebrow and offered the bowl, her smile gentle and pure.
"Miss Holt, I'm so sorry about what happened tonight. I misspoke, and that's what caused the conflict between you and Viola. I came to apologize. Julius just made me some apple tea, and I couldn't finish it all. I brought you a bowl to help you calm down."
Meeting Yvonne's saccharine gaze, Janina leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, a smirk playing on her lips. She looked at Yvonne as if watching a clown's performance. If this were some historical drama, a character like her would have been taken out by the other competing consorts long ago.
