“How could this happen? I… I didn’t…” Julius shot up from his chair, his face a mask of horror.
Thank God Liam and Joy were okay.
Then, his thoughts suddenly turned to his mother.
This was clearly deliberate. He would never put snakes in a position to harm his own children.
So, what about his mother?
She had never liked Janina. Could it be that her dislike extended to the children as well?
As soon as the thought surfaced, Julius violently rejected it. No matter how much his mother disliked Janina, she would never gamble with Liam and Joy’s lives.
He looked up and met Janina’s eyes, which were brewing a storm.
“You didn’t? It was either you or Elena. Neither of you is getting off the hook for this.”
With that, Janina pulled a cleaver from her bag and swung it at Julius’s shoulder.
Not a single person in the Aurelius family was good.
If it turned out to be Elena, Julius, the dutiful son, would never punish her. Since the wicked wouldn't face justice, she would settle the score herself, one by one. She’d start with Julius. He was the one who brought Elena into this, so he bore half the responsibility.
Under normal circumstances, overpowering a woman would be easy for him. But right now, Janina was swinging a cleaver like a madwoman. Wayne silently lamented for his boss: what terrible luck to be involved with a crazy woman!
“I’m their father! Why would I ever hurt them? Put the knife down, and we can talk about this properly,” Julius pleaded as he ran.
He glanced back and saw Janina’s bloodshot eyes. A flicker of panic crossed his own; she looked like she was genuinely out for his life.
“Talk my ass! It was either you or Elena. If it was Elena, would you let the police arrest her? Hah! With your family’s power, this whole thing would just be swept under the rug. How can I let this go until you’ve paid for it?” Janina screamed, raising the cleaver and continuing the chase.
Wayne paced anxiously nearby, looking for an opportunity to subdue Janina, but she was too alert, constantly keeping an eye on him. The boxing lessons she’d taken over the past few months had clearly paid off.
As another swing missed, Janina, overcome with rage, grabbed a vase from the desk and hurled it at Julius’s back.
