She had known the moment Janina arrived at the front desk. She was well aware that Julius still had feelings for Janina; if it weren’t for her, Yvonne would have been Mrs. Aurelius long ago.
She had been standing outside the office the whole time, listening to every word of the conversation inside. She waited until the security guards were on their way up before pretending to have just arrived and bursting in.
She said those things specifically to disgust that bitch, Janina. She wanted Julius to see the difference between them: one who wanted him dead, and one who would die to protect him.
Who would Julius choose? Even an idiot could figure that out.
After this, Yvonne believed Julius would finally make a decision. Moreover, the words she had just spoken would quickly spread throughout Aurelius Group. A vicious ex-wife versus a brave, kind future Mrs. Aurelius. She could hardly wait to hear all the praise and compliments.
The cleaver was wrenched from Janina’s hand by one of the guards. Since she was the CEO’s ex-wife, they didn’t dare do anything more without an order from Julius. For now, they simply surrounded her to prevent her from hurting him again.
Janina was fuming. Even with her boxing training, she had no confidence she could take on six skilled security guards by herself.
Seeing Janina’s fury, Yvonne felt an immense sense of satisfaction. She loved seeing Janina hating her but being utterly powerless to do anything about it.
Janina let her hands drop, a gesture that looked like surrender to an outsider, as if her fit of rage was over.
Seeing that the cleaver was secured, Julius waved his hand, dismissing the guards. He didn’t want his family’s dirty laundry aired in public. This incident involved his and his mother’s reputation; if others found out, who knew what kind of rumors would spread.
As she spoke, she clutched his arm tightly, as if terrified something would happen to him. Then she turned to Janina, her eyes filled with gloating and provocation. Her gaze seemed to say: Janina, you’re just a bitch. You’ll never win against me. I’m not just going to crush you under my heel, I’m going to make everyone despise you.
Reading the challenge in Yvonne’s eyes, Janina’s lips curled into a cold smile.
Oh? So she was sure Janina wouldn’t dare touch her? Or did she think Julius could protect her?
Janina had no time to watch her performance. Since Yvonne was offering herself up, she didn’t mind losing her temper again. The law couldn’t punish her, so she might as well feel some pain. A few beatings might teach her a lesson. And if she still didn’t learn, then Janina would let her climb a little higher, only to fall even harder. So hard that after the pain, she would never be able to get up again.
While the two were talking, Janina lunged forward, grabbed a fistful of Yvonne’s hair, and slammed her head hard against the desk.
