The rain was heavy today, so he might be delayed.
Wendy managed a faint smile. “It’s alright. I’m the one troubling you all. Please tell him not to rush and to be safe on the road.”
West nodded lightly and took a sip of water. The atmosphere in the room felt a little awkward, so he looked for a topic of conversation.
“What’s your plan? Will your company help you take down the trending topics?”
Wendy shook her head. She never imagined the incident would blow up like this. In just one day, she had been branded an unfilial daughter, a corporate traitor…
Her friends had discussed paying to have the trending topics removed in The Graces' Chat, but she knew the incident was too big. Forcibly removing them would only backfire, making it look like she had something to hide.
Besides, she wasn't just being labeled an unfilial daughter anymore. Someone at her company had also accused her of leaking trade secrets. With both issues combined, the story was too hot to be solved by simply taking it offline.
Wendy sighed, but her tone was firm. “I don’t know how the company will handle this, but I’m going to sue the people who started these rumors.”
That included her heartless parents.
When they stood in front of the camera, holding up their IDs to publicly accuse her, they had left her no way out.
Over the past few days, she had come to a realization. Life was fleeting, and she was just a momentary ripple in the vast ocean. For her, family had become an invisible chain, a heavy burden. For twenty-seven years, she had walked a path laid out for her by her parents, a lonely trek without a sense of self or dignity.
She was a person, not a tool. She was not born merely to fulfill her parents’ expectations.
After greeting West, the man’s eyes turned to Wendy. “Miss Clifford, hello. I’m Zack.”
“Hello, Lawyer Zack. Thank you for coming,” Wendy said, standing to shake his hand.
“Let’s sit and talk,” West said, gesturing for them to take a seat.
“I hear you have some legal issues, Miss Clifford. Please, tell me everything in detail,” Lawyer Zack said, all business.
Once seated, Wendy recounted the whole story—the online videos, her parents’ false statements, and the accusations of her leaking company secrets. Lawyer Zack listened intently, jotting down key information in his notebook and asking clarifying questions.
Finally, Wendy added, “This time, I’m fighting back hard. I won’t bow to any pressure. I have the transfer records from all these years.”
