When the production team received Wendy's legal letter, they didn't take it seriously.
The producer blamed the entire fiasco on the staff member who made the call.
"You can't even handle one simple task!" he raged. "Since this show started, we've invited countless people, and not a single one has refused! How did you mess this up? Didn't you tell her we'd pay her an appearance fee?"
The staff member felt miserable. First, he'd had a conversation with a dog, and now he was being chewed out by his boss. He was just trying to do his job, why did he have to suffer like this?
Who was looking out for him?
He desperately wanted to quit on the spot.
But while he thought it, he didn't dare show it. He just bowed his head and forced a smile.
"I-I told her, I really did. But she refused and said we had to apologize."
He didn't dare mention that Wendy had only said one sentence and that a dog had handled the rest of the conversation.
Sob...
I'm so pitiful! I'm my parents' precious child, and I just graduated from college. How did I get stuck in this mess? I want my mommy...
The producer, hands on his hips, thought Wendy was being incredibly ungrateful.
"She's just some nobody with a big mouth. As long as the show gets ratings, it doesn't matter who we invite. Get in touch with her parents right now."
What the show needed was drama. If they could get Mr. and Mrs. Clifford on set, they could play up the atmosphere, highlight their tragic story, and the effect would be perfect.
They could leave the search for their ungrateful daughter as a cliffhanger for the next episode, stretching the content into a two-part special.
They would rile up the audience's emotions, then create a shocking twist in the second part by bringing Wendy out.
Of course, if Wendy didn't show up for the second episode, it wouldn't matter. No one would blame the show; the audience would just direct their anger at Wendy.
Just as the producer was reveling in his brilliant plan, the staff member rushed back in.
How was that possible?
When he saw the posts on Muse and Melody's official pages strongly defending Wendy, the producer lost his composure completely.
No one had told him Wendy had two friends this powerful!
Thanking his lucky stars he hadn't invited Wendy's parents yet, the producer ordered, "Issue a statement immediately! Say we were misled by online rumors. But..."
The producer paused, thinking it over. The situation wasn't entirely clear yet. For now, he would remain neutral and see how things played out.
"Delete the posts we shared earlier. We'll just wait and see. If the story flips, we can come out and apologize. If it doesn't, just wait, I'll destroy her!"
As a producer, he could weather a small storm like this.
*
After brewing overnight, the incident had spun completely out of control. Although Wendy had issued a legal notice, she hadn't provided any concrete evidence, so the public remained unconvinced.
