In the darkness, Summer felt her heart jolt as if struck by something powerful.
She looked up at the man who stood a head taller than her, and the burning intensity in his eyes made her flinch.
Over the past few months, she couldn't deny her own feelings.
But she had been married before. She had even lost a baby.
Someone so broken like her didn't deserve someone as good as him.
If only she could turn back time, she wished she had met Easton when she was at her best.
But now…
Summer’s eyelashes fluttered as she wrestled with her thoughts.
That was it.
She felt insecure.
In front of Easton, she felt pathetic and small, unworthy of him. The miscarriage had taken a toll on her body; she might never be able to conceive again.
She shouldn't covet something that didn't belong to her, shouldn't taint someone so pure.
“Easton, I don’t…”
She met Easton’s tender gaze and finally laid bare the wounds in her heart.
“Easton, you know my past isn’t exactly pristine. You know my story, so I won’t rehash it. But there’s one more thing I have to tell you.”
Summer’s gaze dropped, unable to meet his eyes. But she had to face this. Her lips pressed into a thin line before she finally spoke.
“My body was damaged… I might not be able to get pregnant again. No matter how strong a couple’s feelings are, a relationship can fall apart without children to hold it together. You don’t have to answer right away. I just don’t want to deceive you.”
Without a second thought, Easton blurted out, “I never planned on having kids. Just the two of us is perfect. We can go wherever we want, whenever we want. Besides, I have four younger brothers, and they’ll have kids someday. Me not having any won't change anything. And there’s Nina. Our family already has two kids. My parents won’t mind. So, what you’re worried about isn’t a problem for me at all.”
From their hiding spot, the brothers thought in unison: Seriously, Easton? We don’t even have girlfriends. Where are we supposed to get these kids?
