“I had my reasons! Life abroad was so hard, and I couldn't make it on my own. I had no choice but to rely on men. I was just trying to survive!”
“Hah.” A scornful laugh escaped Julius’s lips.
Couldn’t make it? All lies.
When Yvonne went abroad, he had deposited two hundred thousand a month into her account, precisely because he was afraid she would struggle alone.
If two hundred thousand wasn't enough, what on earth had she been doing?
He had sent the money anonymously, not wanting to put any pressure on her.
So, besides himself, Wayne Wallace, and Yvonne, no one knew about the money.
And so, Yvonne had deceived him yet again.
Julius was so furious he couldn’t stop himself from exposing her lie.
“I sent you two hundred thousand every month, and that wasn’t enough? I’d love to know what you were really doing abroad!” Julius’s voice was practically a roar, laced with years of suppressed anger and despair. “For you, I divorced Janina. I destroyed a perfectly good family, all because of you!”
Julius spun around and slammed his fist into the wall, his knuckles instantly turning red.
He had had his doubts before. Every time he and Janina argued, he’d felt that Yvonne was hiding something. But blinded by the filter of her innocent facade, he had convinced himself, time and time again, to trust her.
Only today did he finally see her for who she truly was.
“Mom!”
Julius couldn’t listen anymore. He cut Elena off, staring at her in disbelief. “Yvonne has been lying to me! She nearly got Janina and the kids killed, and you’re still defending her?”
Elena shot a cold glare at Janina, who was enjoying the show. “The police haven’t even solved the poisoning and kidnapping cases. Yvonne didn’t do any of that. How could a delicate woman like her be capable of such things?”
Elena shielded Yvonne behind her, her gaze sharpening as she fixed it on Janina again, though her words were for Julius. “Don’t let yourself be used by manipulative people. I know Yvonne’s character better than anyone. She would never do those things. Some people, on the other hand, love to stir up trouble. Julius, your mother wouldn’t lie to you. Think about it. When you got married, wasn’t it Janina who threw herself at you?”
The accusation left even Janina and her friends stunned. In Elena’s eyes, all of Yvonne’s actions were dismissed as youthful indiscretion. She brushed it all off with a few careless words, only to turn around and blame Janina.
Maggie snorted. “This is just bizarre. As Mr. Aurelius’s mother, you’re not defending your own son, but instead protecting someone with such a sordid history. Your current daughter-in-law cheated on your son, and not only are you not angry, you’re calling Mr. Aurelius petty. I’m starting to suspect you’re Yvonne’s real mother!”
