Nor did she love him as she claimed. He was merely a financial tool for her to chase after other men. Yvonne was a woman with a venomous heart, willing to do anything to achieve her goals, including repeatedly framing Janina and the children.
And he, instead of believing Janina, had blindly defended Yvonne.
He was a bastard. A complete bastard.
"Mr. Aurelius, how about I call Miss Holt and ask about the children?" Wayne suggested again. Having been by Julius's side for years, he knew his boss’s heart. He knew that, without even realizing it, Mr. Aurelius had fallen in love with Miss Holt.
What a shame. In the end, he was the one who hurt her the most.
Mr. Aurelius was dragging his ailing body here just to apologize to Miss Holt. Surely, he wanted to see her.
To Wayne's surprise, Julius rejected his offer.
"No need," Julius said, his voice painfully hoarse.
The throbbing pain that started in his abdomen and spread to his chest was still there. He looked disheveled and awful right now. He didn't want his children to see him looking so unkempt.
Wayne was taken aback. Mr. Aurelius usually pursued whatever he set his mind to. And now that he was sick, he must be longing for his loved ones to be by his side. The children were undoubtedly the closest people to him now. As for the one he loved most… Wayne used to think it was Yvonne. But after everything that had happened these past few days, he suspected Mr. Aurelius regretted ever meeting her. Since Yvonne had been hospitalized, Mr. Aurelius hadn't asked about her once, let alone the premature baby.
It was the first time Wayne had ever seen him so dejected.
"Mr. Aurelius, your mother sent over some soothing porridge this morning. You should have some. You haven't eaten in a day. You must be hungry," As he spoke, he went to the foot of the bed and raised it. He then placed the porridge and some side dishes on the small overbed table in front of him.
Julius had always had stomach problems. His hectic work schedule meant he often skipped meals, and he frequently had to drink with clients on an empty stomach for business. This long-term irregular lifestyle had led to recurring stomach issues. He had to be especially careful with his diet.
He was indeed a bit hungry now. The food in front of him looked delicious and smelled fragrant, but he had no appetite. He finally understood what it felt like to have an eating disorder. His stomach was empty, but just one taste of the porridge made him feel nauseous, unable to eat more.
He forced himself. His body was too weak; it wouldn't hold up without food.
Julius scooped up a spoonful of the porridge and put it in his mouth. It tasted like ash. He forced himself to chew and swallow. He had to get his strength back to do what he needed to do. After forcing down one bowl, he couldn't eat another bite.
