Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 62

Because she was marrying for love. She was marrying the man she loved!

She had lined up at City Hall before the staff had even arrived for work.

Julius hadn't shown up until the afternoon, his expression cold and distant, but she hadn't held it against him.

When they took their marriage license photo, she was as giddy as a child with candy, while Julius's face was an icy mask.

Still, she had been happy.

She thought it was the beginning of a life of bliss.

Who knew it was the start of a tragedy…

Julius stepped out of the car just as Wayne pulled up.

Julius and Janina walked to the entrance of City Hall.

Wayne got a file folder from his car and handed a newly drafted divorce agreement to Janina.

"Ma'… Miss Holt, this is the new agreement the president had me draw up. Please review it. If there are no issues, you can sign here."

Janina took the agreement and flipped through it.

That bastard. He was really trying to cut her off without a cent.

With a scornful glance, Janina threw the papers on the ground. "Four million dollars. Not a penny less. Otherwise, I'll see you in court, and I'll make sure everyone sees those intimate photos of you and Yvonne."

"And by the way, I wasn't kidding about making a scene at your company. If I don't see the money in my account by the end of the day, those pictures will be all over the internet tomorrow. I'm not afraid of anything anymore."

With that, she turned and walked into the City Hall lobby. If he thought she'd leave with nothing, he was dreaming.

Seeing the look of raw, determined hatred on her face, Julius felt a sharp pang in his chest.

His heart sank.

Janina was so resolute. The last shred of foolish hope he'd been clinging to finally dissolved.

He hadn't really intended to leave her penniless. He was just trying to force her to back down, to stop the divorce.

But her defiance only fueled his anger.

Who argues with free money?

She blocked Julius's number and all his social media accounts. Only after doing all that did she feel like he had truly vanished from her world.

In the car, Julius kneaded his temples.

Looking at Wayne in the driver's seat, his pent-up frustration finally boiled over.

"When I was drinking at the club last night, where were you?" Julius demanded coldly. "Why didn't you come pick me up?"

Wayne flinched at the icy tone in his boss's voice.

The president had just gotten divorced; it was likely connected to last night. He was clearly in a foul mood. Wayne decided it was best to just tell the truth.

"Mr. Aurelius, you told me to wait outside for you last night. I was in the car the whole time. You seemed to be in a bad mood, so I didn't want to disturb you. When you didn't come out, I went in to look for you, but you had already left."

Wayne swallowed hard and pressed on.

"I called your phone, but you didn't answer. Later, a waiter there told me a woman had picked you up. I had the manager pull the security footage and saw that it was Miss Moore who escorted you out. After that, I drove the car to Solara Heights."
