Ava was the owner of the Nova Group.
Muse was Janina's alias in the design world.
Back in college, as a gesture of gratitude for Ava's mentorship, Janina had designed two pieces of jewelry and a limited-edition gown for her, free of charge.
From that point on, the Nova Brand, along with the designer Muse, soared to the pinnacle of the fashion industry.
For years, the Nova Group had been the coveted brand among the elite. Whether it was jewelry or gowns, its pieces were a source of pride for wealthy socialites and their daughters.
But back then, Janina had been completely devoted to Julius. He disliked her being in the public eye and forbade her from working.
So, Janina had abandoned her dream, even adopting an alias for her design work to keep it a secret from him.
Thinking back on it now, Janina wondered how she could have been so blind.
What good was a man compared to money?
After hanging up the phone, Janina told her family she wanted to take her parents to the hospital for a check-up.
At first, Ethan and Grace were reluctant. The doctors had already told them there was no chance of recovery.
But they couldn't resist Janina's persuasion, and with their eldest son also urging them, the couple finally agreed to follow their daughter's advice and go for an examination.
Two days later.
After breakfast, Janina and Easton took their parents to Clayborne General Hospital.
Getting from the countryside to the city was inconvenient, and they didn't have a car, so Janina used a ride-sharing app to have a car pick them up from their home.
By the time they reached Clayborne City, it was already past four in the afternoon. Janina arranged for her parents and brother to stay at her rental apartment, which was close to the hospital.
That evening, Janina emailed her latest design sketches to Ava's inbox.
Less than five minutes later, a payment notification from Ava popped up on Janina's phone. It was just an advance; she would receive royalties once the products hit the market and sold well.
…
The Gable Residence.
The home was filled with a warm and peaceful atmosphere.
"Brooke, sweetheart, did you sleep well? Do you like the room? I had a famous designer create it just for you. Let me know if there's anything you're not happy with, and I'll have them change it."
Brooke was stunned by her mother's words.
How could she not be happy with this?
She was more than happy!
In fact, she was so overjoyed that she had barely slept for days, yet she was buzzing with energy. She was terrified this was all just a dream.
"Mom, I love it. I'm so happy. I love everything here. Are all these clothes, bags, and jewelry in the closet really mine?" Brooke asked, rushing over to link arms with Genevieve, so excited she was on the verge of tears.
Seeing the undisguised joy in her daughter's eyes, Genevieve was delighted and patted Brooke's hand reassuringly.
"Of course, they're all yours. You're our only precious daughter. Who else would we give them to?"
Brooke suppressed a surge of euphoria. She was finally going to be one of the elite. She was right all along; she was destined for a life of wealth.
A wave of resentment washed over her as she thought about the twenty-odd years of farm work she had done in Janina's place. She vowed to find an opportunity to return to the Holt family and thoroughly humiliate them.
