**TITLE: After His Bite, I Learned to Heal 163**
**CONTENT: Chapter 163 A Strange Woman**
Cecilia
There stood Xavier, locked in conversation with a young woman dressed in a pink and white ensemble that seemed to radiate innocence.
Fate, it seemed, had a twisted sense of humor.
I had successfully evaded this impending encounter for days, and yet here we were, as though the cosmos had orchestrated this uncomfortable reunion at the most inopportune time.
The elevator patiently awaited us on the ground floor, but instead of stepping inside, they lingered, as if anticipating our arrival.
Fantastic. Just what I needed—another confrontation.
Sebastian’s face remained a mask of neutrality, yet a slight arch of his eyebrow betrayed his inner thoughts.
“Alpha Xavier,” he remarked, his tone cool and measured as he glanced at the girl beside him, “your little girlfriend Cici was arrested just days ago, and you’ve already moved on? Rather tasteless, wouldn’t you agree?”
Xavier’s expression darkened, a storm brewing behind his eyes as his jaw clenched, barely containing the fury that simmered just beneath the surface.
His piercing gaze shifted from Sebastian to me, lingering on the jacket that was draped over my shoulders, the intensity of his stare sending chills down my spine. It was a look that could kill.
The girl standing next to him, however, seemed oblivious to the tension, her eyes fixed on Sebastian with an unnerving fascination, excitement dancing across her features.
One of them was fixated on me, while the other was captivated by Sebastian.
In that moment, I realized what it felt like to be trapped between two vastly different predators, each with their own intentions.
“Since Alpha Xavier appears unwilling to engage,” Sebastian murmured softly near my ear, his arm slipping around my waist in a protective gesture, “let’s just continue on our way.”
As we attempted to pass, a pale, slender hand shot out, grasping Sebastian’s arm with surprising strength.
“Brother…” she said, her voice lilting and dreamy, reminiscent of a character from a bedtime story.
I blinked in disbelief.
Wait. What?
My head spun toward the woman Xavier had brought, confusion rising within me like a tidal wave.
Even Sebastian seemed momentarily taken aback, his usual composure faltering for just an instant.
But then, as if a switch had flipped, his expression hardened once more—cold and unreadable.
He gently peeled her hand from his sleeve. “I don’t know her.”
“But she—” I began, still reeling from the unexpected turn of events.
“You’re my pretty brother,” the girl chirped, her smile radiating a kind of vacant joy that sent shivers down my spine.
And that’s when I noticed—her eyes were wide, glassy, and unfocused.
Oh.
She wasn’t all there.
Xavier had brought a woman with a mental disability to the building. At midnight.
“Xavier,” I said, shooting him a look of disgust, “wherever you found her, take her back.”
Xavier caught sight of my anger and smirked, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “What’s wrong? Jealous?”
I shot him a glare filled with contempt. “I’m telling you to stop being a despicable human being.”
Despite her condition, the girl was undeniably beautiful.
But bringing someone with the mental capacity of a young child into this environment, especially at such a late hour, was beyond reprehensible.
Xavier flinched under the weight of my disdainful gaze, his chest tightening as if my words struck a nerve.
He was already in a foul mood, and seeing me with Sebastian had clearly pushed him over the edge.
Suddenly, a malicious smile curled his lips.
He shoved the girl toward Sebastian. “Go find your pretty brother. He likes you very much. He’ll take good care of you.”
I stood there, utterly dumbfounded.
The girl’s face lit up, and she reached out to embrace Sebastian.
Sebastian deftly sidestepped her advance, casting a cold glare in Xavier’s direction. “You know, Alpha Xavier, you really ought to have that head of yours examined.”
With that, he took my hand, guiding us around them and toward the elevator.
“Brother, brother…” The girl’s voice called after us, her tone persistent like a shadow that refused to fade.
We stepped into the elevator, and to my dismay, she followed us inside.
Xavier, without so much as a glance back, turned and strolled away toward the parking garage.
I stood there, jaw dropped, torn between the smiling girl in the elevator and Xavier’s retreating figure.
Had he lost his mind?
He had just abandoned this vulnerable woman with us and walked away!
The elevator doors slid shut behind us.
“Brother…” The girl beamed sweetly at Sebastian, inching closer.
Sebastian instinctively stepped back, pulling me in front of him as if I were a human shield, raising his hand in a firm, protective gesture. “Stay where you are,” he commanded.
It was clear he wanted to avoid any physical confrontation with her.
Surprisingly, she obeyed, halting in her tracks.
She stared at him as though he were a Disney prince who had just rescued her from a lifetime of mediocre Tinder dates.
Frustration simmered within me, my temples throbbing with the weight of the situation.
I wanted nothing more than to drag Xavier back and give him a piece of my mind.
The girl attempted to follow, but the property staff held her back, and she erupted into a full-blown wail.
Not just sniffles.
Not soft sobs.
We were talking Oscar-worthy, banshee-level shrieking. “Brooooother! I want pretty brother! Go awaaaay! Bad people! BAD PEOPLE!”
I practically dragged Sebastian toward the elevator, my pace quickening as panic set in.
I felt as though I were fleeing for my life.
Once back in the apartment, I collapsed onto the sofa, exhaling deeply, the weight of the evening crashing down on me.
Apparently, that girl could be more terrifying than a lunatic.
Sebastian handed me a bottle of water, sitting down beside me with a contemplative expression. “Even if Xavier’s taste has deteriorated, surely he wouldn’t stoop this low.”
“I wouldn’t put anything past him. Maybe after dating Cici, the psychopath, normal women just don’t do it for him anymore,” I remarked bitterly, my frustration spilling over.
I didn’t care who he dated, but when his drama spilled into my life—and onto Sebastian—that crossed a line.
I was beginning to suspect that the girl might be some kind of pawn in Xavier’s twisted game to harass us.
My gaze drifted to Sebastian’s waist.
Why else would she have immediately latched onto him?
My muscles, traitorous as they were, melted under his touch, the warmth radiating from him soothing my frayed nerves.
I knew I should pull away. I knew this was a bad idea. I knew I would regret this later.
But in that moment?
His warmth was intoxicating. His scent was calming.
His voice, when he hummed something low and wordless, was more effective than any sleep aid I could imagine.
Before I knew it, I succumbed to the pull of exhaustion, drifting off into a peaceful slumber.
When I finally opened my eyes, we were already in the building’s garage.
It must have been a while since we’d arrived—it was already 12:30 AM.
“I’m sorry, I was really tired today,” I mumbled through a yawn, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep.
“I should be the one apologizing,” he replied, his expression sincere. “Last night I shouldn’t have…” He paused, giving me an apologetic look. “You needed the rest.”
I remained silent for a few moments, my cheeks warming as I climbed out of the car.
He followed suit, removing his jacket in the cool garage and draping it over my shoulders, a gesture that sent a flutter of warmth through me.
Just as we rounded the corner toward the elevators, I spotted two figures standing by the doors—and instantly wished I hadn’t.
