39 Chapter 39 I’ll find a way myself
Confronting an alpha like Elias? My omega instincts screamed submission, but I shoved them down. For Lucy, I had to try.
I paddled towards his room and knocked Elias’s door, heart pounding like a drum in my chest. Knocking softly, I pushed it open when his gruff “Come in” echoed through.
He was at a small desk by the window, buried in a stack of documents. The room smelled of him: pine smoke and ink, with a faint undercurrent of the forest outside. He didn’t look up at first, his broad shoulders hunched, brow furrowed in concentration. His shirt was rumpled, sleeves rolled up to reveal corded forearms, and for a moment, I faltered.
That alpha gaze, when it landed on me, always made my knees weak.
“Do you need anything?”
“I..um,” I started, my voice already trembling under the weight of his presence. The bond churned a warm pull in my core that made me want to bare my neck. I hated how it softened my resolve. “We need to talk about Lucy.”
He glanced up then, those golden eyes locking onto mine like a predator sighting prey. My breath hitched, omega instincts flooding me: lower your gaze to appease him. But I held steady, stepping closer, my hands twisting in my sweater hem.
“Please. You have to intervene. Forcing her into this marriage… it’s wrong. It ignores the moon goddess’s will. True mates are fated; you can’t just arrange them like
business deals. Lucy deserves a chance to find hers”
Elias set down his pen, leaning back in his chair with a sigh. His furrowed brow deepened, and for a flash, I saw something in his eyes–regret? Reflection? His thoughts seemed to drift, perhaps to us, our own twisted bond born of hate and fate. He rubbed his jaw, stubble rasping under his fingers,
“And what if she never finds her true mate, Naomi? What then? She wastes away waiting for something that might never come?”
I shook my head, stepping even closer, my voice gaining strength despite the tremble. “Then she can find her own lover, someone she chooses, not some stranger Grandpa picked for alliances. She’s not a child but a grown up, Elias. And she’s not happy about this. You saw her last night how she ran out crying! How can you just let that happen?”

He stood slowly, towering over me, the alpha aura rolling off him in waves that made my skin prickle. The bond intensified, heat pooling low in my belly, urging me to
submit.
“You think I haven’t thought about it? Grandpa’s word is law here. Challenging him means chaos and fights in the council which end up into divided loyalties. The pack’s stability comes first.”
“But what about her happiness?” I argued, my voice rising, though it cracked under his gaze. “You’re an alpha; you could stand up to him. If not for Lucy, then for… for the principle. Forced bonds destroy people. Look at us!”
The words slipped out before I could stop them, turning the argument inward. My chest tightened and my eyes widened.
“I–thats not what I-”
Elias’s eyes darkened, stepping into my space until I could feel his breath on my face. “Us? You want to talk about us now?”
His voice was low, commanding, sending shivers down my spine. “You ran from me, Naomi. Hide like I was the monster. And now you preach about true mates? The moon goddess paired us but ended us into enemies. If that’s not fate’s cruel joke, what is? If you cared so much about your so–called true fate then why did you turn like this?”
I opened my mouth, but words failed me. The tension between us crackled, his proximity overwhelming me and the bond screaming for contact. I wanted to push him away, scream that our “bond” was not a curse, but a blessing if not for my father ruining it.
But his gaze held me captive, those golden depths swirling with conflict: possession, anger, and something softer that terrified me. My omega side whimpered internally, craving his touch even as my mind rebelled.
Left speechless, I just stared at him with my lips parting uselessly.
He sighed but his tone shifted to warning, laced with that alpha command that made my knees buckle. “Listen to me, Naomi. I can’t challenge Grandpa without risking everything, the pack’s unity, my position. And you? Don’t meddle either. This world is hierarchical; omegas who stir trouble end up broken. Stay out of it, or you’ll create problems for yourself I can’t always fix.”
His words carried concern beneath the command, like he cared despite everything,
