59 Chapter 59 Shopping and fun
Elias’s pov:
Lucy burst into my study next morning without knocking, her vanilla scent trailing like a sweet storm. She was in her usual casual gear, yoga pants, an oversized sweater that swallowed her frame, hair tossed into a messy bun that somehow looked intentional.
“Elias! Winter’s coming, snow, holidays, all that jazz. We need to go shopping,” she announced, planting herself in front of my desk with arms crossed, her expression a mix of determination and that bubbly charm she wielded like a weapon.
I didn’t even glance up from my tablet, scrolling through the latest border patrol reports. Rogues had been spotted near the northern flanks again, testing our defenses.
“You want to go shopping,” I corrected flatly, taking a sip from my coffee mug, the bitter brew grounding me amid the chaos of pack leadership.
“No,” she shot back, leaning forward with a sharp glare that reminded me of our shared Kingsley blood, stubborn to the core. “We need to go shopping. Coats, scarves, boots. And don’t give me that look; your wardrobe is ancient.”
I finally met her eyes over the rim of the mug, suppressing a sigh. “I have coats.”
She scoffed, hopping onto the edge of my desk and swinging her legs like a pup. “Coats from three winters ago, maybe. And Naomi? She barely has anything warm. Come on, Elias, take us. It’ll be fun! A family outing.”
That name, Naomi snagged my thoughts like a thorn. I glanced instinctively toward the window where she sat quietly in the adjoining living room, sunlight filtering through the glass and catching in her dark hair like threads of gold.
She was flipping through her phone, lost in whatever article or message held her attention, her profile soft and unguarded in the morning light. She looked up suddenly, as if feeling our stares, confusion flickering across her features, those emerald eyes that still carried the shadow of her father’s sins, but now stirred something reluctant
in me.
“I’m fine,” she said quickly, her voice carrying through the open door. “I don’t need-‘
“You absolutely do,” Lucy interrupted, waving her off with a grin. “Winter here isn’t kind, blizzards, freezing winds. You’ll freeze your tail off without proper gear. And

Elias, think about it: Naomi in a cute winter coat? You’d like that.”
Naomi opened her mouth to argue again, cheeks tinting pink, but I was already mulling it over. The dinner mishap from last night still lingered like a bad aftertaste, coming home to her carefully prepared meal only to admit I’d already eaten, watching her face fall with that raw disappointment.
It had hit harder than expected. A shopping trip could be an apology of sorts,a silent one, wrapped in provision. Alpha instincts demanded I care for her, even if she resented it.
“Alright,” I said finally, setting down the mug with a decisive thud. “We’ll go.”
Lucy’s face lit up like the full moon, and she let out a squeal that could shatter glass. “Really? Yes!”
I pointed a finger at her. “But if I’m dragged into trying on scarves or anything frilly, I’m leaving you both there.”
She grinned wider, hopping off the desk. “Deal! I’ll get ready, Naomi, come on!”
Naomi shot me a hesitant look, brows furrowed. “Elias, I don’t have to,”
“You do,” I replied lowly, just for her, the bond humming with unspoken intent. She didn’t argue further, but the faint warmth through our connection told me she felt it, the apology, veiled as it was.
As I reached for my keys, my phone buzzed on the desk. Jessy’s name flashed on the screen. I frowned, stepping aside to answer, keeping my voice low. “Yeah?”
“Hey, Elias,” she said, her tone cheerful and light, as always. “Are you free tonight? Thought we could grab drinks, follow up on that dinner chat?”
I glanced back at Naomi and Lucy, already chattering about stores and routes in the next room. Jessy’s call felt like an intrusion, a reminder of the subtle flirts I’d brushed off last time. No way was I stirring that pot again, not with Naomi’s jealousy still fresh in my mind,a thrill I secretly savored.
“No,” I replied without hesitation, my voice firm. “I’m busy.”
There was a brief pause on her end, a hint of disappointment seeping through. “Oh. Okay. Another time then?”
“Yeah,” I said curtly, ending the call before she could press. I didn’t think about it again,

Jessy was an ally, nothing more. My focus was here, on the day ahead, on making amends in my own way.
