Chapter 6
Rain was shocked speechless by Marcus’s words.
Marcus’s eyes were full of cruelty.
“Someone who used to work as a bar hostess-hard to say whose baby that really is.”
“You’re lying!” Rain screamed in breakdown. “I never did that kind of work! You’re the one who pursued me! You said you loved me!”
“Where’s your proof?” Marcus sneered. “The chat logs only show you throwing yourself at me, and those photos-you forced me to take those.”
“What about the apartment!”
“That’s a company benefit housing unit for temporary employee use. You thought it was a gift?” Marcus lied without batting an eye.
Rain was completely stunned, crying as she tried to grab his hands.
“You touched my belly, you said you loved me and the baby…”
“Enough!” Marcus shoved her away. “You crazy woman! Keep harassing me and I’ll call the cops!”
Rain staggered backward, nearly falling.
“Marcus!” I called out sharply. “Whatever happened, she’s pregnant!”
Marcus realized he’d lost control and quickly composed himself.
“Sorry, babe. I’m just so angry. This woman’s shameless, coming to my house with these lies.”
Rain looked at me desperately, then back at Marcus.
Suddenly, she started laughing maniacally. “Ha ha ha… I get it now!”
She was laughing and crying at the same time. “Vivian Hartwell, you win. You rich people play with us poor folks like we’re toys.”
“I haven’t played with anyone,” I said coldly. “You chose to be the other woman.”
“Yeah, that was my choice.” Rain smiled bitterly. “I thought I’d found true love. Turns out it was all a joke.”
She touched her belly, madness flashing in her eyes. “Since neither of you want this baby, then I don’t want it either!”
With that, she turned to ram herself into the wall.
Much as I hated her, I couldn’t watch a life be lost.
I rushed over to stop her. “Calm down!”
