Aria didn't want to listen to the maid's rambling and started walking forward.
She wasn't a saint and wouldn't easily forgive someone just because of an apology.
"You're back?"
Gideon came downstairs, saw Aria's frail figure, and walked over to her.
"How many weeks?"
He, the father, didn't even know about something so important. He had been truly negligent.
Gideon caressed Aria's face, his palm then moving to her stomach.
"By my count, it's almost been a month, right?"
The last time they were together had been unpleasant, and with the incident involving Lilith, it was understandable that Aria was angry with him.
But how could she not tell him something so important?
"You can't hide this from me anymore." Seeing Aria remain silent, Gideon said softly, "No matter what, I'm the child's father. What's the point of hiding it from me? Anyone who didn't know better would think the Evernight family was mistreating you."
Weren't they mistreating her?
What was the point of trying to make amends now?
The child was already gone.
"I'm a little tired. I want to rest."
"Let the doctor check you again. I've already called the family doctor over."
Gideon took Aria's hand, gently pulling her into his embrace. "I'm worried about you and the baby."
"There's no need," Aria said. "I went to see a doctor. He said I was just a bit shaken up and that I'll be fine with some rest."
A pregnant woman's mood was important.
Gideon understood this and didn't insist.
He walked Aria back to her room and glanced around at the somewhat simple furniture. "How about you move into my room for a few days? It'll be easier for me to take care of you."
"Take care of me?" Aria found the idea laughable and let out a small laugh. "Aren't you called away every night by Lilith to keep her company? How are you going to take care of me?"
Thinking about how both of Aria's supports would disappear, Gideon's lips curved into a smile, and his tone became even gentler.
"Aria, I only see Lilith as a close friend. Once she has recovered, I won't have any more contact with her, okay?"
"Just focus on your pregnancy." Gideon moved closer to Aria. "I promise, you will be the one and only Mrs. Evernight, and our child will be my heir. Does that give you a sense of security?"
Aria had already pulled back a little as Gideon approached, her fingers subconsciously touching her stomach.
Hearing Gideon's words, Aria's expression remained calm, the coldness in her eyes hidden by her dark lashes.
"Is that so? If the child knew they had such a good father, they would surely be very happy."
Gideon asked, "And what about you?"
Aria's voice was even calmer. "Me? I'm very happy too."
"Didn't we agree back then, ten million dollars for having a child? I don't want the money anymore. Let's just save it for the baby."
"What do you think?"
