Aria had been in the lab all night, running on pure adrenaline.
She was close… so close to a breakthrough.
Aria focused, slowly injecting the drug into the lab mouse.
Half an hour later, she drew a blood sample from the mouse and began her analysis.
Another idea occurred to her.
If she had based her work on the original experiment from the start and focused on creating an antidote, her research might have progressed more smoothly.
Aria increased the dosage and injected it into the mouse to accelerate the addiction's effects, while simultaneously administering the newly developed antidote.
Just as she had thought, the mouse’s agitation gradually subsided. Now, all she had to do was observe it for a month to confirm her results.
Aria saved her research findings.
This was just a foot in the door. Ultimately, she still wanted to develop a neuro-regenerative drug that didn’t require an antidote.
But time was short. She emailed her findings to Raphael’s inbox.
It was six in the morning. Aria assumed Raphael was still asleep, but to her surprise, he replied within five minutes.
[Raphael: I’ve forwarded your research to the higher-ups.]
Aria was a little surprised.
Usually, people with health issues paid close attention to their well-being, and while they might wake up early, it was rarely this early.
[Raphael: You didn’t disturb me. I just returned to the country and am still dealing with jet lag.]
As if he had read her mind, his message answered her unspoken question.
Aria pressed her lips together and replied with a simple, “Understood.”
[Raphael: You’ve been experimenting all night? Are you feeling alright?]
Now that Raphael mentioned it, Aria noticed a dull ache in her lower abdomen.
She hadn’t rested properly after the abortion, constantly pushing her body to its limits.
Aria sat down and took a painkiller from her pocket.
[Aria: I’m fine.]
She was used to hiding her vulnerability from others.
