Aria had nothing left to fear.
The only thing Roxanne could threaten her with regarding Charles was their past relationship.
They weren't related by blood, so what was wrong with them having dated?
Besides, they had broken up, and she had never done anything to betray Charles. She wasn’t afraid of what anyone might say.
“Charles…”
Flora, who had appeared at some point, called out softly.
Roxanne, who was about to say more, swallowed her words when she saw Flora.
At the same time, she shot Aria a glare.
Flora was dating Charles now. What would she think if she found out he had once been with Aria?
The Brent family was currently a hollow shell, struggling to keep up appearances, and they desperately needed an alliance with the Keene Group through marriage.
Therefore, Charles's engagement could not have any complications.
“What happened?”
When Flora woke up, she knew they had gone all the way.
A warm, giddy feeling fluttered in her chest.
She had always felt that Charles was only with her out of guilt. But if he truly had no feelings for her, he could have refused her.
But he hadn’t.
That meant he had feelings for her, too.
Charles’s voice softened as his gaze fell on the ring on Flora’s finger. “Are you feeling better?”
Flora nodded shyly and spoke softly, “I’m much better, it’s just… down there… is still a little uncomfortable.”
Seeing Flora's demure expression, Charles’s heart sank.
This wasn’t right.
If the drug truly had fertility-enhancing effects, Flora *should* be in discomfort.
Flora’s tone shifted, and she spoke slowly, “I overheard a little just now. Is this about Aria?”
“Lilith! My daughter!”
Roxanne burst into tears, collapsing next to Lilith and clutching her hand.
“You have to hold on! Didn’t we give you the antidote?! Why are you still coughing up blood?”
Helena also rushed over, the room thick with the smell of blood.
“Why is she coughing up even more blood than before? Is this an antidote or a poison?”
“Before administering the drug, I stated that her medication history was unknown, and the decision to proceed was yours.”
Aria spoke up. “There were too many uncertain factors, but there is nothing wrong with the antidote. Charles already called my professor to confirm. Are you suggesting my professor and I switched the antidote?”
Charles’s expression was complicated. “I know my professor’s character. He values human life above all else.”
Gideon immediately arranged for an ambulance. After hanging up, he added, “I was the one who chose to administer the drug. This has nothing to do with Aria. If something happens to Lilith because of my decision, I will take full responsibility.”
Aria sometimes thought Gideon was quite a character in his own right.
If Roxanne weren't so indecisive, always needing Gideon to make the final call, he wouldn't have had to be the scapegoat for this.
