After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 175

"What?"

Aria asked again, as if she hadn't heard Alden Reaves correctly.

"Get an abortion," he repeated.

The atmosphere instantly froze.

Aria instinctively glanced at Raphael.

The Evernight family placed great importance on heirs. If her professor said something like that, what if the family retaliated against him…

But Raphael remained calm from beginning to end.

"Dr. Reaves, the pregnancy is Aria's personal matter. We have no right to interfere."

Alden Reaves snorted. "I see this meal isn't happening. Aria, if you want to continue with this research, you need to get rid of that child now, before we get started!"

"Professor, why?" Aria didn't understand. "I promise I won't slow down the project!"

Alden Reaves took a deep breath and looked at Raphael. "You should step out. I need to speak with Aria alone."

Raphael nodded. "Alright."

He left so promptly that Alden Reaves gave him a second look.

Once the door closed, Alden Reaves spoke immediately. "Do you know about the Evernight family's genetic disease?"

Aria was taken aback. "I do."

"Then why did you get pregnant? I can guarantee you, if that child in your belly is born, it will have the genetic disease!"

"Do you know why the Evernight family is so desperate for children?"

"Isn't it because the genetic disease has caused their family line to dwindle..."

Alden Reaves sighed, slumping into a chair, looking weary. "I know you're a soft-hearted person. If you're pregnant, you'll want to keep the child. Blood is thicker than water, after all. But have you thought about this child's future?"

"If this child is lucky, he might be like Gideon, with the disease remaining dormant, and he'll seem like a normal person."

Aria had thought their relationship could never go back to what it once was…

Since he was being so sincere, Aria decided not to hide the truth about her abortion any longer.

She briefly explained the situation to him, wiping away tears as she spoke in a low voice.

"The Evernight family doesn't know I had an abortion... I'm hiding it not because I want to use the pregnancy as leverage for something, but because I'm afraid if I don't, Gideon will force me to get pregnant again for cord blood, and I'll never be able to get a divorce."

Alden Reaves couldn't believe Aria had been living like this with the Evernights. His eyes filled with sympathy, and he slammed his hand on the table in anger.

"Aldous Evernight has gone too far! You are my student, and I will not stand by and watch you suffer in that living hell! Since you already have the divorce agreement from Gideon, go and file it now!"

Aria's eyes stung fiercely.

But she couldn't get a divorce just yet.

Although she no longer cared about the twenty million dollars Aldous Evernight had promised, thinking about what she had endured today and everything Gideon had done to her, a powerful hatred surged within her.

Perhaps because it had been so long since anyone had truly cared about her, her previous goal had simply been to escape unscathed.
