If Gideon had been able to maintain professional boundaries and a proper social distance, then even a thousand Liliths wouldn’t have caused this to happen.
In the end, it all came down to the fact that Gideon didn’t love her.
It had all been her own wishful thinking.
But once you’re married, there are rules you have to follow, even if there are no feelings involved.
Since Gideon had crossed the line, it was time for a divorce.
“I will never agree to you two divorcing,” Aldous Evernight declared. “You are carrying a child. I will not let an Evernight heir be born outside of this family.”
“Actually, I…”
“Gideon, it’s my fault. I’m the one who disrupted your life with Aria. I’ll leave right now, and I promise I will never appear before you again!”
Aria had been about to bring up the abortion, but Lilith cut her off, rushing out the words in a single breath before bolting out of the house.
“Lilith!”
Gideon took off after her without a second thought.
Eveline was frantic. “That child is already in poor health! What if something happens to her from running like this?”
She shot a glare at Aria, who stood with her back ramrod straight. “She’s your sister, for goodness’ sake. Did you have to be so heartless?”
Her, ruthless?
“How was I being ruthless? If I really wanted her dead, she wouldn’t have lived to see today!”
Strictly speaking, Aria was the reason Lilith was still alive.
Aldous Evernight watched Gideon run out, his chest heaving with rage. Raphael quickly gave him his emergency heart medication.
“Dad, what’s done is done…”
