“I’ll go ask my professor about the specific antidote formulation.”
Gideon also took out his phone to make a call. “Bring Aria here.”
The antidote was an easy fix; as long as they had the formulation, they could produce as much as they needed.
The difficult part was who would take over as Lilith’s primary physician after the antidote was administered.
“The blood bank is running low! This is the last half-unit of red blood cells!” a nurse added as she changed the blood bag.
Hazel's eyes darted around, and she quickly said,
“Mr. Evernight, I’m afraid we can’t stop the transfusions before the antidote arrives. After all, there’s no effective coagulant right now. If we stop…”
“I brought Aria!” Flora burst through the door, panting. “Aria’s here!”
Charles's expression changed. “Flora, what are you doing?”
“This is my family’s hospital; of course I’d know if something happened to Lilith. I brought Aria here on my own initiative, but I can’t just stand by and watch Lilith die!”
Aria glanced into the room, her brow furrowed.
“Why are you only giving her blood? Where are the hemostatic agents? The ethamsylate? The thrombin?”
And you’re only transfusing red blood cells, not platelets. What’s the point?
It’s a complete waste of blood!
“Ms. Rowan has a unique physiology. What if indiscriminate use of medication makes her condition even worse?”
Henry walked into the room holding a file and handed it to Gideon.
“Mr. Evernight, there are only three registered Rh-negative donors in the city. I’ve already contacted them, but…”
Gideon took the file and glanced at it.
The donor was just a sixteen-year-old kid. Even if they donated, it would be 400cc at most—not nearly enough for Lilith.
“Mr. Evernight, I’ve sent out an alert. Four more people can be here to donate within the hour.”
