Aria slowly opened her eyes to the smell of antiseptic. Her lower body was still numb from the anesthetic; she couldn't feel anything.
She couldn't stop herself from touching the side of her abdomen, where a thick layer of gauze was wrapped around her.
From this day forward, she had lost any chance of having children…
Tears welled up and slipped from the corners of her eyes, tracing a path down her temples and into the pillow.
"Want some vegetable soup?"
Raphael came over, carrying a thermos. When Aria saw him, she quickly wiped her tears away.
"Why are you here…"
Raphael smiled. "Why can't I be here?"
"I'm about to divorce Gideon. Soon, we'll have no connection at all."
Raphael didn't comment, just a soft hum as he placed the prepared supplemental agreement on the table beside Aria.
"I heard you and Gideon basically built Evercrest Prosperity Holdings together. I've secured half the equity for you."
"And, do I need to remind you? Even without Gideon, we still have a professional relationship as colleagues."
"Once you've recovered, the GJ101 project will officially launch."
Raphael brought a spoonful of soup to Aria's lips. "Vegetable soup. Have some."
Aria had been mentally and physically exhausted for days. Now that she was starting to recover, she felt a powerful wave of hunger.
Aria obediently opened her mouth and let Raphael feed her.
Perhaps because she was starving, Aria thought the soup was incredibly delicious.
As she ate, an overwhelming wave of self-pity and sorrow washed over her.
She'd just had major surgery, and there wasn't a single friend or family member by her side...
"Aria! I heard you had your uterus removed?!"
Flora burst through the door in a flurry. She froze when she saw Raphael was also there.
Her expression turned to one of surprise as she took in their intimate posture.
