"There's absolutely no reason to suspect me over this, especially since drug development always involves some level of material loss."
Flora had no real experience with pharmaceutical research, so she only understood the absolute basics. Every lab technician knew about material degradation and loss.
The officer, handling this kind of complex case for the first time, quickly sent a message asking for expert backup.
He needed to avoid looking completely clueless while trying to solve a murder.
After sending the text, the officer turned to the civil affairs staff.
"Since Ms. Rowan is now a suspect in a homicide investigation, I'm afraid the divorce proceedings will have to wait. I have a few questions for her right now."
The staff sneaked a glance at Aldous Evernight. Seeing no objection from him, they practically sprinted out of the room.
Who could have guessed that Aria and Gideon were actually married?
Did that mean Lilith was the homewrecker?
As Aria was led into the interrogation room, Gideon let out a breath of relief.
Even if she still wanted a divorce after this blew over, she would have to wait out another mandatory thirty-day cooling-off period.
He felt a weight lift from his shoulders.
To him, a woman's primary role was to take care of the home. While he respected career-driven women, if that woman was Aria, it was a different story entirely.
He didn't want her out in the public eye, attracting unwanted attention.
By the time she got out of this mess, the genetic disease trials would already be successfully underway.
Aria would be entirely cut out of the picture by everyone else.
Except for him.
He was the only one who wouldn't care if she had been to prison or killed someone.
And she would no longer have the leverage to fight him.
The evidence was stacked against her. Unless she could account for the missing 5 milligrams, she would never wash her hands clean of this.
After a moment of thought, Gideon took out his phone and texted Alden Reaves.
[Gideon: Dr. Reaves, my wife isn't feeling well. She won't be coming to the lab tomorrow.]
