"You're right. What normal person would drink that much in one go? Why don't you let Mr. Adler explain it to you?"
Raphael, whose commanding presence made him impossible to ignore, stood up from the sofa.
"The Brent Group sold off several projects at a massive loss yesterday. Are you facing cash flow issues?"
Raphael's voice was cool and collected, but to Charles, it sounded incredibly condescending.
Of course the Evernight family knew why the Brent Group was liquidating assets.
If Charles hadn't been desperate to scrape together that hundred million dollars, he wouldn't be standing here today.
He had come hoping to negotiate a partnership with Gideon, only to walk into this mess.
Graham, terrified of offending either side and still entirely sober, frantically explained.
"I offended Ms. Rowan in the past! I'm here to apologize! I chose to drink, and even if something happened to me, it wouldn't be her fault!"
Graham knew that even if he dropped dead in this office, the Evernight family would ensure Aria walked away completely unscathed. He was just trying to survive.
Charles's frown deepened. "No matter how he offended you, Aria, you don't need to force someone to risk their life to apologize!"
Raphael let out a low scoff. "How generous of you to offer forgiveness on her behalf. You have no idea what he did to her, yet you stand on a moral high ground judging her. Whether it's necessary or not isn't for you to decide."
Aria chimed in. "You came here to negotiate a deal? Is this how you conduct business?"
Charles's hands balled into tight fists.
He couldn't fathom why Aria and Raphael were practically holding court in Gideon's office.
He possessed several patents and had hoped to partner with Evercrest to pull his family's company out of its downward spiral.
