After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 34

“You’d really say any lie just to see Charles, wouldn’t you?”

Back in their student days, because they weren’t blood relatives, Aria had never mentioned being part of the Rowan family, nor had she explained her connection to Charles.

Hazel had simply assumed Aria was desperately chasing after him.

Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.

“Some people should take a good look in the mirror. Do you even know who Charles’s girlfriend is? She’s from the Keene Group! They’re a perfect match. And you?”

Aria’s patience was wearing thin. “If you have a crush on Charles, why are you taking it out on me? I have nothing to do with him. Now let me in!”

Charles went upstairs and pushed open the door. “Professor, Lilith was given the wrong treatment. Is there anything we can…”

His words died in his throat.

Alden Reaves was standing by the window and hadn’t noticed Charles’s arrival.

It was only when he casually turned around that he saw Charles at the door. He cleared his throat and pulled the curtains shut.

“I’ve seen the chart. It was indeed an easy misdiagnosis to make.”

The single bone marrow aspiration had shown malignancy, so any doctor would naturally assume it was a late-stage tumor.

However, that result conflicted slightly with the blood work, a discrepancy easily overlooked because the patient was already on medication.

Not only had Aria sent him a copy of the chart, but Charles had as well. At first, Alden had also visited Lilith and, based on his initial assessment, believed Aria had been the one to misdiagnose. It wasn't until Aria highlighted the values just now that Alden Reaves realized he was the one who had made the error.

“Professor, Lilith is in a coma now. I heard you mention that the institute is developing a miracle drug that can restore consciousness. Can we use it on Lilith?” Charles’s voice was urgent.

Alden Reaves shook his head. “That drug is still in the developmental phase. It can’t be used on the public…”

“Then, Professor, can you give me Dawn’s contact information?” Charles’s right hand trembled, his voice desperate. “If Dawn can come save Lilith, then she’ll definitely be okay, right?”

Her eyes met Charles’s bloodshot gaze, and she frowned.

What was wrong with him now?

Had she come at a bad time?

Alden Reaves handed Lilith’s newly rushed blood results to Aria. “Take a look and see what medication the patient should be on.”

“Professor! How could Aria be qualified to save anyone?” Charles bit out every word. “She was in the hospital room earlier. She knew Lilith was misdiagnosed and didn’t say a word, letting Lilith receive the wrong treatment! She’s the one responsible for this!”

Aria made a tutting sound. “I told you not to use the drug.”

How could they possibly pin the blame on her?

Gideon was the one who wouldn't let her speak, but all of them were the ones who refused to believe her.

“Professor, I can’t consult on this,” Aria said, her breathing evening out as she pushed the test results back toward Alden Reaves. “The family doesn’t trust the doctor. They certainly won’t trust any treatment the doctor prescribes. It would be a waste of time.”
