After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 48

"Answer one question for me, and maybe I'll let you in the car."

"What question?"

"What's the story with the twenty million dollars?"

Aria's steps faltered.

She remembered what Roxanne had told her to say if Charles ever asked about the twenty million. She was supposed to claim it was to cut ties cleanly with the Rowan family so she could marry into the Evernight family.

Aria clenched her fists.

If only her biological mother's house wasn't still in Roxanne's hands…

"Of course, it was to marry into the Evernight family, to stop the Rowan family from leeching off me." Aria stopped and looked at Charles coldly. "You already knew that, didn't you? Back then, the Brent and Rowan families were in a financial crisis. If I had married Gideon while saddled with a pile of debt, would he have been willing to marry me?"

"So, I had to cut ties completely."

Charles's expression instantly turned cold. It was exactly what Roxanne had said. He had really misjudged her!

He had actually thought Aria might have had some hidden hardship!

Charles rolled up the window and stomped on the gas, speeding away. "Aria, you disgust me."

Aria shivered from the cold, with no time to feel hurt. She ran through the rain all the way back to the Evernight estate.

At 11:58 PM, she arrived.

Charles's car was parked in the courtyard.

Aria, ignoring everything else, stumbled into the house, went straight to her room, washed up, and went to sleep.

The seminar was scheduled to start at ten o'clock.

When Aria woke up in the morning, her throat was raw and painful.

Her head felt foggy.

Gideon tapped on the table. "Dawn is human. And all humans have weaknesses."

Aria tightened her grip on her cup.

Gideon's methods were very similar to Old Mr. Evernight's. If he found out she was Dawn, he would never cooperate with her smoothly.

Not only would she continue to be tormented by Gideon, but she would also be completely controlled by him.

At that thought, Aria's expression darkened.

Since both Charles and Gideon were so eager to work with Dawn and use him, then Aria could turn the tables and use them.

She quietly returned to her bedroom.

[Aria: Professor, I've changed my mind. I don't want to attend the seminar as Dawn. I want to attend as Dawn's representative.]

Only then could she get on stage to present her research without Gideon and Charles realizing that she was Dawn.

Because neither of them would ever believe that Aria could be Dawn!
