“Shh! Don’t let Henry hear you.”
The other person let out a long sigh. “I miss Aria so much!”
Gideon pressed his lips together, then closed the door again.
Was Aria really that good?
Isn’t that what she was supposed to do?
So why couldn’t anyone else manage it?
Gideon pulled out his phone and sent Aria a text.
[Come back tonight.]
He scrolled up through their chat history. For a long time now, Aria had been meticulous about everything.
She sent him detailed information about his documents, his ironed suits, and his weekly dietary plan.
He, for the most part, never replied.
Now, when he texted her, she didn't reply instantly either.
Gideon thought for a moment, then sent another message.
[Didn’t you want to get a puppy before? I’ve agreed.]
***
Aria calmed herself down. When she saw Gideon’s text, she couldn’t make any sense of it.
What was wrong with him now?
She had thought it through. It didn't matter if she couldn't have children. She had already prepared for the worst when she participated in that clinical trial.
She had frozen her eggs long ago.
With technology so advanced, you could have a child even without a uterus.
She wasn’t keeping this child.
And she wasn’t keeping the uterus, either.
That way, Gideon would have no way to control her.
Her mind made up, Aria went to the grocery store, bought some ingredients, and went home. They were all iron-rich foods.
Once her hemoglobin levels were up, she would get the abortion.
She decided to treat this time as a gift, a bonus period to spend with her child.
